| for something that was meant to be a stop-gap until i found the perfect 1.8T MK4 its come alot further than planned and is about to go a whole lot further...
the stickers are all going, every last one! all the panels and mouldings i've been collecting should be getting prepped, painted and fitted once the wheels are finally bolted on. stripping, painting and polishing wheels by hand is gay.

| whilst i was messing about with the car and jacks etc i decided to do something i've been meaning to do for a while.....can you guess? thats right, ghetto camber! i lowered the back a bit more and fitted a pair of 3mm spacers to bring the top of the wheel closer to the arch again. i know i'm a bit odd when it comes to my car (the build thread speaks for itself) but i love how this photo just makes the car look broken! anti-social modifying makes me smile. lots. | |

you been pulled by the L.A.P.D yet? the 5-0 havent seen me since its been camber'd but i did pull out in front of them the other day, i tried my hardest to act natural with no mirrors, no wipers and dragging the subframe all the way down the road.... got to the traffic lights at the end of the road and they turned red. doh! i was waiting for them to switch on the blues and two's and ask me for my license and registration and if i was carrying a weapon (or something along those lines) but the lights went green, i turned right with a bit of front wheel / arch contact and they turned left. happy days. 99 problems but getting pulled by the filth aint 1!

i used 3mm thick washers and put them on the lower bolts between the stub axle assembly and the rear beam in the photo above, its given me ridiculous toe in, i actually really like the look of it but dont want to cut the new tyres out with one trip to the shops. going to replace the rear washer with a slightly thinner one to bring the wheel back in line.

| Yeah thats what you need yo do m8, its really really hard to get it perfect i never managed it with the cabby and messed about with it for ages. id assume you beam is fairly inverted so maybe try a 1.5mm washer on the lower rear bolt. | |

| i knew it wouldnt be spot on to begin with but had no idea how it would sit so opted for a pair of 3mm washers first, going to try a 3mm on the front bolt and a 2mm on the rear next and see what happens...
i searched a few forums but no-one had a definitive answer to thickness's and geometry etc so decided to work it out myself with trial and error.

| yea tires dont last long with toe-in :( i lost count how many washers i had haha i think it was about 4-5 1.5mm washers in the end, but i had to replace the lower bolts for longer ones because the standard ones werent long enough ghhetto ftwwww | |

When you plannin on havin the 17s on? 17's were meant to be on a month ago but i've been too busy to polish the lips and bolts, hopefully they'll be on in the next couple of weeks. the previous owner painted them in a rubberised anti chip paint thats about 8mm thick (no exageration!) so they're being a b***h to strip and polish. i should've got them blasted but didnt think it would be that hard to sort. in hindsight it would've saved me about 3 weeks of wire brushing, sanding and nitromors........ - billybug wrote:

| so the main update today is that i have bought a new car! not to replace the ghetto fabulous MK3 but to keep it alive, i am the new owner of jacks MK3 gti. massive shout out to jack for the deal. cheers buddy. its a shame its sooooooo rusty inderneath because its alot cleaner than mine everywhere else apart from the bonnet! i'm basically going to put it in storage and use it for spares when i break stuff on mine, like the subframe thats split...... it will also give me the chance to build up an 8v engine to the spec i want to match the eventual look of the car, a kind of USDM OEM+ look. (make it look like a standard american, base model MK3) i've know got pretty much everything i need, just gotta pull my finger out and get stuff painted, fitted and on the car. a few pictures of my 2 burgundy MK3 8v GTi's...... | |
