| The idea was to buy my first VW after i had to weigh in my old daily 'ghetto cabriolet' So after missing out on a few 3 door MK4 1.8T's and slowly spending the money i'd set aside for the new daily i did a deal in Ipswich and drove home in my new Golf! A 5 door, MK3, 8v with towbar......not quite what i set out to buy but a good deal for a few hundred quid with fresh MOT and tax. happy days! The intention was always to leave it standard and just keep it clean as i should really be concentrating on my long term project FD3S. However after a few weeks i decided to 'tidy it up a bit' so i gave it a good wash, fitted a new set of number plates, smoked side repeaters and smoked reflectors up front and removed the GTi badge and wiper round the back... After that i thought i'd DIY smoke the headlights to match? Then i stumbled across these.... They're the 15" not 16" version so will test fit them as soon as the PCD adapters and 165/50's arrive! I've got some -60mm springs ready to go on but am thinking about finding some 2nd hand coilovers now? Oh i've now removed the towbar so need to fill the hole in the rear bumper and i'm gonna remove my arch trims and see what lurks under them, hopefully nothing too bad, if they're clean can you guess what i'm going to be doing next..... any comments, critisms or advice would be greatly appreciated! To Be Continued.....

| If you remove the arches, you'll need all four corners painting mate. The arches have fixings underneath them. | |

| i took mine off to check underneath and you dont lee, they are just like the mk1 and mk2 arches. Drill the rivets out underneath and pull the arches off. You just need CL side mouldings.trims as they finish with a bevel instead of meeting arch trims cause they dont need them. | |

| I'm undecided on how to finish the 15's, they're too badly kerbed to just fit up and roll so need something doing? 1. quick rub down and paint silver all over? (quickest) or 2. complete rub down, sand, flat and polish? (most time consuming) or 3. rub down, polish lip and paint centre either same colour as car or greyish? (my favourite so far) i decided to give one a quick go so i can offer it up to the car and get some idea of the 'look'. I now have a blistered thumb and finger from polishing the lip up..... | |
