| Give me a shout if you want any tyres swapping on the Merc rims or the 17's popping off the rim to clean up the bead and seal it. Was it on the outside near the valve? If i have 5 mins spare i can pop over and pick them up one evening for you | |

If i have 5 mins spare i can pop over and pick them up one evening for you yeah its coming from about an inch away from the valve on that side, just gonna clean it up, put some bead sealer on it and hope for the best! cheers for the offer but i've been told there's actually a back street tyre place in the village so i'm going to go see him and try and get everything sorted in one hit. fingers crossed. - billybug wrote:

| 2 days left until inters and i currently dont have a matching set of wheels to run the car on.......or a roadworthy car to put them on. hhmm. new tyres have arrived for the mercs so they will be fitted up and all painted the same colour. the front 17's have been popped off the beads, cleaned, re-torqued and re-inflated. they will go in the bath tomorrow to check for leaks. the rear 17's are currently M.I.A. they were dropped off with a tyre fitter who was confident he'd get them inflated and balanced. i havent heard from him since monday. joy. so with no wheels, i did the only sensible thing i could and lowered the car more! a few pages back i posted a pic of the bottom arm touching the subframe bolt, in the above pic i've removed the raised part to allow more movement. i also removed the anti roll bar as it was locking between the bottom arm and chassis leg. and the finally enlarged the original chassis notch and made a couple of new ones for the track rods. now the driveshaft is fouling the rear engine mount, not sure if i can cut a section out? gonna remove it and have a look tomorrow. | |

| so with inters out of the way and 60psi in the 17's too seat the bead it was time to get them on. easier said than done. the fronts werent a problem at all, being only 8.5" with a 195/40 i have plenty of room to play with. its the rears that are a ball ache, 205/40 on a 10", i fitted them up and dropped the car back down and the arch just sat on top of the tyre tread. balls. as you may have already noticed, i'm not that gentle or subtle when it comes to bodywork so out came the hammer. to give you some comparison of the size difference, this is a previously poking merc and the newly 'fettled' arch... unfortunately i ran out of time and cutting discs last night before the T2D meet so had to resort to drastic measures................ i raised it. the fronts up 40mm and the rear approx 45mm, i hate it, but until i can cut the inner arch out and hammer the rear arch clear its the way its gotta be. the raised ride height allowed me to repair my VR6 splitter and run that for a while, i also had to find a way to stop the rear bumper touching the rear tyres so i drilled 8 holes and used 4 cable ties. easy. think thats about it. still a long way to go until i'm happy with them but it will get there. so for now, the 17's are finally on. | |

| cheers dude, i still think the rear sits far too high but it looks alot better in pics than real life. yeah its a genuine splitter so doesnt shatter like the ebay ones but splits if you catch it so i just drilled it and pulled the cable ties tight to pull it back in, not sure how long it'll last but it matches the rear bumper / 1/4 panel for now so its all gravy. if you need any bodywork doing on the TT just give me a shout, i have a large array of different hammers for all jobs. | |
