just my 2p worth. mid mounted in a caddy a bit of extra weight will be a good thing as the caddy will be a light weight one anyway.... A turbo'd vr is definately not a slugish thing

- also what exactly is the difference between a charge cooler and an intercooler?
I can answer you that one. Intercooler (normally front mounted if uprated) uses air passing over it (like a normal radiator does) to cool air from the turbo before it goes in the engine. While a charge cooler has it's own water cooling circuit and pump and uses water to cool down the intake air. I think from what i have read chargecoolers are more expensive but more efficent? sure someone will correct me if i am wrong.

| charge cooler would be the best in your setup mark as you wont have to run intercooling piping all the way to the front which would give you MASSIVE lag with long piping and a big intercooler.
If you run a charge cooler with short piping you will get boost a lot quicker and will have a lot more efficient setup.

| ah right, how about an intercooler in the back? im not having a bed so it could lay flat in the back behind the engine with ducting coming from underneath | |

| Ok, so..... I run a mk3 VR obd2 and a Ibiza cupra 20vT both about the 200ish bhp, Yes I know that theyre very different cars and weights but, this is my opinion on what ive experienced, I have to agree with Tiz for most of it, Displacement is key for me, my 20v is far quicker far far far quicker than my vr upto 100-110 but then the vr pulls like a train still and would leave my 20v way behind, To be fair the 20v is still on the Ko3 and would benefit from a larger turbo, but pound for pound im sure a turbo/charger on the vr would liven up an otherwise lazy engine. However that said for your application dragging at the strip, I think a lighter, well modified 20v would give better times than a vr. Just my opinion. | |
