| Hi everybody, this is my ongoing project (please see my other post for my 16v MK1) which has been going for around 7-8 years now. The story so far; I bought this MK1 GTI through a guy my brother knew at VW. The shell was in pretty good condition when I got it but did need a bit of welding, this wasn't an issue as I had decided I was going 'all out strip' to bare shell with this one. I started the project while I was at Uni and worked on it when I should have been in lectures, spending most of my student loan on it too I was lucky enough to have my brothers help too who conveniently works for VW and sourced every panel new including; doors, wings, tailgate, front/rear panels some of which were the last ones in stock I booked her into a bodyshop in Derby where she spent 9 months having all the under sealant removed, new sills, rear and front panels welded in + a few subtle mods etc. This gave me enough time to save up to pay for it all and build the G60 at the same time. When I finally got her back it took around another year to get her back on the road with the help of full time (£££) work. I went to GTI International that year and couldn't believe the attention she got considering I was parked in the car park and wasn't actually complete. I had two offers from magazines which I turned down (regret it now) because I still had some bits to finish on the interior and motor!!! I took her to a couple of other shows including GTI Festival and did a few runs on the Pod THEN I removed the G60 later with a plan to bullet proof the bottom end, CNC head etc but a few months on and the idea of traveling to OZ had popped into the equation SO the MK1 was put on hold and I sold my Corrado VR and MK2 ABF to help fund my trip. I did however purchase my White MK1 a few months before I left because the shell was too good to miss... If you have not lost the will to live and are still reading then finally we are pretty much up to the present day, where she lies heartless and waiting to be put back together. I think I may have missed the part where I bought a 20vt motor though? watch this space....

| Seats are awesome mate... Yep its a stroeve shifter but you can defo change the gear knob This is staying under wraps for a while unfortunately as House is priority for me right now but I will keep plodding on with her. The G60 is sat on a stand though and I could probably have that back in within 1 week if I wanted.... | |

| I think I got mine through Venom or some other dealer around 6 years ago. Its an Ali tower, how long have you had yours? Do they still make them? | |

| No the base and the lever arm are still alloy but the tower sides and back are stainless. i think it was only very early versions that were part stainless, as they changed to all ali to reduce cost i think.
fully polished would be sweet m8. i was planning on black anodizing my allsmiles 1 but dunno what to do with this 1. | |

| I have decided to coat/protect the underneath of the blue one rather than leave it painted as there are already a few chips so I ordered one of these off eBay to keep me busy over winter! | |

| What freakin mission! After around 3hrs of messing about trying to lift her up 18" we finally accomplished the near impossible! I wouldn't advise anyone to try do this with less than 3-4 strong dudes! I only just managed it with my old man, engine crane and I! The rear was a doddle and I can lift that alone but the front was a different story!!! Pics aren't great I'm afraid; POR-15 on its way | |
