| righto then chaps, which engine is going to be the easiest and cheapest to get me near to the 400bhp mark?
i was thinking of charging a vr, making all my own pipework and spacing the headgasket. ive been told you can run them up to about 400 bhp without internal work?
20vt on the other hand, i would be mounting it to a passat gearbox if i had one, and other than bigger turbos etc and mapping what can i do?
im thinking that a vr will be cheaper to get ig power out of, but maybe not as reliable?
many thankings | |

| nope, do you mean just slapping a snail on an abf? i dont know too much about engines so any input is good.
its for a caddy that im building for the strip. space isnt an issue at all.
did think about a w8 but that would be silly money

You'd have to change the internals to get to 400bhp if you want relilability other wise bye bye conrods!

| You can run 330 on std internals so i've been told and seen but i woulnd't trust it personally, The boxes arent to bad just get a good clutch and diff setup and should be ok i reckon. | |

did think about a w8 but that would be silly money I remember reading about a guy over the pond who had a Mk1 Polo with a Bi turbo VR6 but switched it for a 16VT because it was better but I can't remember why (not much use) Quick google theres lots of info out there There is obviously the S2's 2.2 20v turbo engine which you should be able pick up cheaply and more power is easily achievable

| engine 1500quid tops, vr6 gbox and driveshafts 150-200quid
all the associated parts for plumbing in/mounting 500-600quid
new clutch/fluids etc,,, 200quid
good exhaust system 350ish
wiring for it using all standard sensors immobilser decoded and throttle pedal 700ish
labour included drive away 4k
obviously parts supplied to me considerable less if you have the parts lying around
say engine and wiring up 2.8k

| thats too much for me. i was thinking more along the line of buying a stock engine, spacing the head and putting on a charger/turbo. i can make all the pipework myself so in theory forced induction shouldnt cost me anymore than a spacer and the actual charger?
like ive said i dont know a lot about this stuff so i may be missing loads of vital parts.
me theory was that a vr can be picked up fairly cheap, so if i blow a standard one by running too much boost i can just put a another cheapo vr in and maybe in the future upgrade the internals and maps etc to get it reliable? then i thought maybe a 20vt, or as mentioned a 16vt. i just dont know!
