its looking good though, and i look forward to seeing it in the morning

HOWEVER.....if i find anything on my bonnet Mark, your arse is grass.....and i'm the lawnmower

heres an update, simons already posted some pics of the finsihed paint but heres a few more anyway..

primer stage..






then after wet sanding the primer colour and clear went on..








an finally for te first time in 8 weeks she is looking like a car again




Now its all attention on getting the engine to run smoothly, and finishing putting her back together of course
Will she make it to Edition in one weeks time?

Not looking good for making it to edition. Noticed the head gasket was leaking yesterday!

Gutted....

you can fix it you have got two evenings,

nice bulid buddy, whats 'Shutz' is that some kind of underseal? as started to underseal my golf & it seems to stay tacky

Can fix in a few hours but may aswell rebuild the head including skimming it which'll take a few days no doubt at an engineering shop. We dont know the history of the block and on inspection today, looks like its done a few miles and will need rebuilding too.

We'd still need to set the webers up even if we got it bolted back together.

Too much to get sorted then MOT'd for friday

Yes its like gun applied underseal, sprays out like texture and acts like a stone chip proof underseal, it does stay tack for a ages because its oil based to repel water.

Ill be on the look out for a 2ltr now i reckon, and then go from there..

But yes she wont be going edition :(, but gives does take the pressure off, might even wait till next spring to bring it out to save insuring through the winter, and to get the front end looking as good as the back

A few pics of the golf so close to being ready to go.. We made our deadline of getting the car ready for edition thanks to Lee, Simon, Jim and Gem, all the hours worked and we got the car from a knackered shell fit for scrap, to a solid shell with a great engine conversion.. in 8 weeks!!! And we cant be disapointed with that.
But the engine letting us down last minuite cant be helped, she will be on the road soon, but heres the pics of her so close to being ready to go Edition









Its not perfect yet.. but i am over the moon with how well its shaping up so far.. so cheers guys for all the help, and cant wait to source a new engine for her

Absolutely mate, we can be getting yours ready for paint in no time, youll be out before me i think hahaha

thats a massive pain in the arse.

when i fitted a 2.0L block in one of my mk2's, i was really pleased until i started it up and pretty much straight away a valve stem seal in the head gave up.

it was a case of "f^ck sake ive got to take it apart again!".

ah that sucks guys, you can take the head over to cambridge rebores and they may do it in a few hours, i got my block back with being re honed, polished crank and new rings bearings etc in a day turn around. if you drop it off in the morning i bet you could get it later that day if u asked nicely! its worth a shot!

Cheers Curtis, but Lee thinks best not to spend money spend money rebuilding a 1.8 block, and I think it would be better to find a good 2ltr to start afresh, will get the head sent away though for a skim and get the valve guides checked as soon as we've stripped it down

Shame it's not going to out for Edition dude, but at least you found out now and not the day before

Will be good to see it out on the road!
