R055i's Mk1 Golf G60 Project .....

Hi all Kinda new to the forum so i thought i'd start a project thread for my Golf

Well i bought it about a year ago from surrey and she looked like this .....






Its a 1600 GTi with a few nice little touches (fischer tape deck, VDO gauges in centre console, original Blaupunkt tape player, MOMO steering wheel)

Had a stock 1600 Gti lump in her, so i was planning on putting twin 40's on and making a bit of carb noise .... Butttt a G60 cropped up at bedford for a good price and i couldn't really resist So i picked the new heart up and got it sitting at home on an engine stand....




Degreased and cleaned the lot and gave it a lick of paint (aluminium and wrinkle black)




The whole car went over into my mates workshop where all the rot was cut out, had a new pair of sills, rear quarters and a rear valance








A full respray in the original colour (Marsrot 80)




And thats as far as i've got so far.... planning on buying a massive list of bits before hitting the road:

-Stainless 421 and cat back
-Bahn Brenner stg 4 G60 kit
-Fast road clutch kit
-258mm mk2 16v brakes
-Fully poly bushed
-Coilovers
-ARB kit
-And i have a set of 14x7 Borbet T's currently on my polo to go on

Cool project, great to see another MK1 on here. Get her back on the road and come to the meets/shows with us....

where did you get the wrickle black from?

This is going to be a nice car good work You can get that paint from frost matty not sure how good it is stuff he has used looks good though.

Cheers for all the positive comments guys and it sure will be out and about coming to plenty of shows and meets next year latest and i'll keep updates posted up when things happen. Unfortunately not alot's happening at the moment but should spark up again soon when i've paid off a bit of debt :(

This long easter weekend has been a god send ... got my headlining through from Newton Commercial after they cocked up the order AND overcharged me! :banghead:

So i've used the weekend as a headlining and window fitting weekend

I probably went a little mad on the photo's but oh well

I'm pretty happy considering i thought i would end up messing it up, crying, then paying someone £300 odd quid todo it for me

A few little corners and creases that i need to tidy up a little but i feel like i'm making progress again!

Gave it a good clean / polish / wax last weekend and its finally starting to look like a car again

Towed out with a flat tyre of the carport by the polo....

Hopefully going to fetch a 2 1/4" stainless manifold back this weekend if all goes well so i'll mount that up just to see how it looks

Then i realllllly need to start thinking of lowering the front end with a nice G60 lump

Its a Supersprint pipe at the front (to match the supersprint manifold i'm looking to get) into a custom built (by TopGear at St. Albans) 2.25" system with 2 silencers and a 2.5" outwardly rolled tip

Got the majority of my gaskets for the G60 lump today with only a few waterway ones to get now

DESPERATELY trying to hunt down a G60 Mk1 engine bracket so next month i can start thinking on dropping the engine in after buying a VR6 clutch

Dude is that a new engine mount on the block ? if so where did you get it from if you dont mind me asking ...

Ahhhh its an insert from the bugpack kit ..... You use you're standard bush and you stick the insert in.... stiffens it up a lil and looks good

can i ask who and where did your paintwork? my mk2 mars orange is gonna need a paint soon and if i can find someone closer then im up for it.

No dude, not the bug pack insert , the actual vw engine mount (black bit ) looks brand new not just freshly painted..

Nahhh i didn't get it sprayed there actually lol but we do a really good job

I just got a mate of mine to do it as i didn't really have much money at the time... its not a perfect job but its good enough for me
