it is a lovely jack , cheers for the loan Mr Cope.. I promise it has no brake fluid spilt on it

So been a busy weekend, ive (with the help of Lee and Si) got the exhaust adjusted, had the rear drum in bits to sort out the sticking handbrake cable, finally got the carbs tuned so she is purring like a goodun now and just generally sorted load of little niggles out..

I refitted the BBS kit again, i know it looks scruffy and faded.. it will get repainted soon along with the whole car so it looks the part, anyway heres the pics..













Still loads of final touchs before hoping to get it Mot'd thursday, but gonna have to get some hours in first haha

Gonna have to get a new master cylinder fitted and re bleed all the brakes though as for some reason the master cylinder has decided to start leaking fluid out now

probably why brakes have been rubbish...

Maybe the servo is wrongly adjusted and has blown the seal mate. Will have a look before you fit new M/C

Getting there mate, keep going!

Had first drive today as i took it for a booked in Mot test, it was so good to finally drive it properly after owning it nearly a year lol. there is many things still to do, but as far as the law is concerned

IT HAS PASSED ITS MOT

Honestly couldnt believe it, and big thanks to Lee and Simon and everyone who has contributed to making the GTI what she is today, and will be in the future as there is many more things for me to do

So after getting it taxed i took it for a drive and took a few piccys.. enjoy

cheers Tom, it was definately a close call, but glad to have saved it

So now the Mk1 is on the road i decided to make the interior look more like a car, and less like a sea of horrible scratched red bodywork lol... I started by cutting out the sections for the rear 1/4 panels (so i can mount speakers to a solid base) and the boot area around the wheelarchs, then glued on some black fairly thin carpet from carpet right , but they turned out really good..




also cut and carpeted the floor area too..



Then i wondered what to do about the arches themselves, as i wondered if the carpet would be too thick to stay in the shape of the contours around the inner arch itself, I decided it would be worth a shot, but the actual strut mount area would never bond so i sanded it, primed it and gave a coat of metallic black and lacquer.



Once that was dry I made up templates and cut out the sections for the inner arches and used contact adhesive to bond it, was very fiddley (especially the driver side one) but i am really happy with how it worked out..




This is how I left it tonight, all that is left is to do the corner sections at the bottom of the rear arches and cut a board to hide the lights

Hahaha cheers Ben, Back seats are ok dude, but they encourage too many passengers lol. But I'm glad the carpet looks so good... Just need speakers now

Cheers Tom, yes all electrics sorted, I found a cut earth wire in the engine bay loom that ran from the dash clock plug, soon as I connected it to ground everything came back

perfect, and didnt cost you a auto spark

Thankfully.. I was dreading the bill for sorting these, especially as I knew he'd burn hours checking what id already checked but I knew it would be something simple, I just cant believe how many problems were associated with one tiny earth wire lol

Another day on the golf has passed and ive got a fair few niggley jobs sorted. I started this morning as the sun was shining by sanding and repainting the tailgate shut as it was the last horrible bit of visible paint spoiling my new boot lining..



Once that was dry I finished by cutting out a board for the rear panel, carpeted it and screwed it into place, just like all the other panels..




Also finally got round to fitting the Sony headunit that came with the car, and wired in some speakers to check if all worked.. It actually did lol, you can see in the pics the speakers mounted by the magnets on the base to the strut tower lol, when i can get some 6x9 speakers ill cut and mount them in the side panels properly

I fitted the Corrado seats i got from Monty and refit the Choke cable so it works properly (aftermarket one kept trying to pull through the dash ) And a few other little jobs ive been waiting to do.. So all in all its coming along nicely
