| Been meaning to do one of these for quite a while now, so here goes; Bought in June 2007 for the tasty price of £230 from a mate who managed to lose his license, job and found out he was going to become a father within the same week - ouch. Although the price was good, the poor thing was somewhat neglected when I first had it, so needed discs, pads, tyres (1 of them on the verge of bursting judging my how smooth it was) new backbox and some general love and attention! After pissing around trying to figure out what random anomolies with the car were, for example: a v.strange noise which turned out to be a rear wheel bearing seat, I could finally get to slowly making it my own. As I bought her: So far we're upto June '07 - more to come shortly..

| Sounds
K well, rather than doing the sensible thing and making sure the car was 100% mechanically reliable, I decided to make an attempt at a boot build Started off by buying a 2x12" box with 2 x JBL gt4-12's and a JBL GTO-4000 amp on ebay for £80 - sold the box and 1 sub for £20 meaning I got a nice little 4 channel amp and a sub for £60 couldnt have gone any better planned if i tried. Firstly masked up inside the o\s arch and got a good 3 or 4 layers of fibreglass i bought from a shipping repair shop in norfolk Got it out (with a hell of a lot of elbow grease, a crowbar and quite a few swear words said) and trimmed it down to size Then drew around it onto some MDF and cut the shape out as neatly as I c ould Then drew around the sub and cut out the whole with a jigsaw, also the whole for the line posts plate to sit Test fit Then drew around a second, smaller piece of MDF for the subs 'lip' to catch onto and create a firm seat for the speaker to fit in Lined the holes up with the speaker in and screwed it into place before no-more-nail'ing it on for added peace of mind Then gave the speak and plate a test fit - seemed to fit nicely for my first real little piece of DIY Then took out the speaker, placed the fibreglass into the arch and lined up the MDF to check the fit. Needed a tiny bit off here and there, but in the end it fitted nicely At this point the pictures stop for the sub :( Cant remember if I just stopped taking them or I've managed to lose them, but I'm planning on taking some to show the finished product To cut a longish story short; I used fibreglass to join the fibreglass shell to the MDF, lapping over a couple of layers which made a v.v.hard bond between the two. I then made a false floor with some more MDF and slats of wood Covered the false floor with carpet I got on ebay As I've said, there are quite a few bits (parts, not steps ) of the build I've missed, Pics of the finished product to come...

| Cental Locking
By late 2007 I was starting to go a bit mad at the lack of central locking after my last car had it - found myself forgetting to lock doors lol.. So I put one of these kits in; Possibly the best £25 I've ever spent. Very simple to add to the car, just take the door card off, screw a mounting strip positoned underneath the locking mechanism and attach the solenoid. Loop the rod through the solenoid end and connect to the existing rod of the locking unit (quite fiddly if you've got big hands), test to make sure it works and simply run the wires through to the box which I put behind the dash. repeated for 2 doors and the job's a good'n! repeat for the for the other door Electric Windows
Did this on a bit of a wim really, decided 1 day last year I wanted electric windows so bought a SPAL kit with a MK3 dash electric switch kit and connected it up easily enough.. the switches fit just above the ashtray on either side and work well

| Steelies
In mid '07 I went from the standard 13" wheels and bought some G60 steelies on ebay for £130, just felt like something new for the car and liked the look of them. When I bought them the guy had them in paint with just a thin layer of black, so I nitromor'd the wheels and sprayed them matt black, with the intention of in the future going for a silver rim and centre caps, and black detail (the vw sign and inner holes) Coilies
In December I couldn't take how 4x4-esq the car looked, so got involved in a golfgtiforum.co.uk group buy and snapped up a set of Hottuning coilies for £150 delivered. Went to mvdevelopements to have them fitted, top bunch of guys. Gave me an initial ride height of this; But, what with me being a wimpy woo I had the car raised to a more sensible -40/-60mm set-up before getting the camber/tracking done at cambridge performance tyres.

| I want that part smoothed over, but still in black textured. Think I need to buy front and back black bumpers and cut them up.. I've got 2 coloured half cut up, but not that easy to texture them :cyclops:.
start a thread! or take over martins :cyclops:

start a thread! or take over martins use filler to smooth it? you can buy bumper texture paint in a can Would the paint match well though? that's my only worry really, it's also getting the swage line (or whatever it's called) perfect, unless I cut from a rear bumper and plastic weld in? - LewisG wrote:

def looks better with out the front number plate It was indeed! I always seem to notice you at the last minute, not quite quick enough to either give you a nod or a flash of the lights. Plus my car isn't really 'modified' enough to be obvious at the moment :bounce: but cheers for the comments!

| Bit of an update Gave the car a good clean, probably is the thing i lack with my car so thought i'd make a bit of a day with it and clean the gf's lupo while I'm at it Used Clay for the first time too! ended up with this left on the clay probably the first clay in almost 15 years, so did it good in my opinion How it's sitting at the moment until i get the borbets bought and refurbed; newest addition to the car is my roof rack, bought a Thule xplorer basket on ebay too, but that doesnt fit even though it's supposed to be universal so not sure what im doing with it yet, but the bars look good, ready for the festivals once ive got the basket sorted car ended up looking like this at the end of the day

cheers bud, i went to halfords yesterday to look into getting some kind of attachment with a seperate bar to make it fit, but i cant find brackets anywhere and the extra bars will cost around £30, plus the extra weight so it's not looking promising basket may be for sale in the near future if i cant find a solution :(
