| I swear it must be like a curse owning a cab...every week you either find something that you need/want to replace or have to do a few bits!!! | |

| ok, so here i go, so my head gasket went a week or so ago and i had to fix it, so with a: gasket set £53 head bolts £24 fresh oil £24 and coolant £6 i set about it. drained off water/coolant and removed the bonnet. only just got her in the garage with the splitter on then into the garage and removed a few bits took this pic to remember where the wires went, but never used it. then cracked on and had so dirty hands i couldn't be arsed to take anymore pics. but this is the engine now. after a quick polish today here she is as she stands i even popped some gauges in tho holes, to keep me busy and tried my best to get the dash sorted new stereo too, due to old one breaking | |

| Well m8 I'm really glad to hear you got her running! I wish I could've tied her up better than I did when you came to pick the car up at the cottage. I really wanted to finish the car but due to the military sending me back to the states and short of funds, I just couldn't do it. It was great fun and I can say I had my blood and sweat in that car to get it where it was when you got it. I was pretty much fed up with it and really didn't bother to figure out if it really was the injectors but usually it comes to stupid s**t (like you said, the two wires)....so ya i feel like a dumbass for not figuring that out but oh well I'm glad that you really haven't had much of a problem and she passed MOT! Sucks to hear that the head gasket went just a week or so after MOT. but I cannot tell you the history of that engine as I got it up north that a guy had it in storage for a year or so. I cannot recall exactly as its been nearly 2 years, but i'm sure that 16v came from a corrado as it come with the o2a gearbox and cable shift box/linkage. (which I'm sure if you want, my buddy who now lives at my old cottage still has that thing laying around somewhere). If you have any questions just let me know. oh yeah, BTW you did get a steal. I got the cabby from mk1rolf back early 2008 for more than £250...and the exhaust new was nearly 300 quid! You did get a steal but honestly you seemed like a good bloke and knew what you were talking about, so I figured I'd hook up a fellow dubber as a friend of mine did the same when I got the jetta I had (still have to this day). Now I'm just driving the MK3 VR most of the time and got a 01 cabby with 51k miles for less than £4000 back in january. so yeah I did loose a little bit of money when I sold you the cabby, but hey, it kept me busy and is a passion of mine to work on vw's. oh yeah, and 99.999% of the wiring that had to be cut and spliced was stripped back, soldered, and heat shrinked...then i wrapped each splice after heat shrink with electrical tape so i highly doubt there will be a short. I have a few other pics but i didnt want to sift through my photobucket as the other swap I did in a mk1 cabby for my friend steve..those swap photos are in there too. I put my old 2.0ABA that originally was in my 96 jetta (now is a VR) into his mk1 cabby when i got it from mk1rolf: like 2 weeks later: | |

| Well I should be on more regularly now as I've had internet for about 5 months and finally got my computer fixed...stupid power supply shorted and had to get a new mobo too :( I'll have to clean up the moneypit next weekend. Not much has changed except the ride height due to having to ship it...so she's a bit high and has 205/50/16 for tires. couldn't get 195/40/16's in time before having to ship the car. Oh and I'm still running the UK plate never coming off the car and the stateside plates will remain in the window...i do not care how much hassle the cops give me. i am NOT going to put holes in either bumper or buy a US plate tub | |

| so i goes out today to ask a mate if he has a tyre for the front (cos the drivers side is badly cracked an drops to 5psi after 4days) and ended up rolling home on these (with 4 NEW tyres, 3 of which are toyo proxys) i ended up giving him £10 and my wheels with near shot tyres so he could put them on his skoda to sell. | |
