| I know both types. the strict but fair and the lax and lazy dont want to fail a car on principle. I peronally use strict but fair. Try either :- Cambridge Vehicle Services, swanns road cambridge 01223 566475 or Autokare, in mercers row cambridge 01223 361136 Both testers are my mates and have never ever let me off a thing but I know that my car is safe though. Another fella locally is fenland car care in littleport. I dont get on with the fella but his work is good and fair. | |

| checked all the fuel lines for leaks and there aint any, set the timing by ear and she runs a bit better now. but the starting issue is still there!!! she still needs to be primed about 3/4 times before turning the key and you can't touch the throttle untill the engine is hot or the engine will cut out!! what does that microswitch do on the throttle body? and i did notice that the fuel pipe used is very soft and flexable, could this be an issue?? | |

and i did notice that the fuel pipe used is very soft and flexable, could this be an issue?? The throttle should return fully to touch the micro switch The infeed pipe to the metering head needs to be of high psi grade, soft pipe will expand and not hold the correct pressure k-jets need.

| ok. i moved the exhaust to it's correct position on the cabby as it was not bolted up at all, now i managed to get 5mm clearance between the exhaust and the front arb. after starting the ca the exhaust settled and now there is only 1mm clearance and it rattles on tickover.
so
can you buy a slightly thicker rear engine mount? or can i space it a little with a couple of washers?

| Diesel gearbox mount is harder, might stop things vibrating so much. It's no thicker than petrol though.
Otherwise poly exhaust mounts should hold it in place a little better? Again, stop some movement etc.

| Poly front mount available on ebay for a tenner. it'll stock the engine from tipping back when under load. as tyeness says, some new exhaust rubbers would be good too. the ashley 4 branch is common for rubbing on the ARB, it does take some jiggery to get it right. | |

| ok, turns out what i thought was a mk1 airbox mated to a 16v metering head.......is just a 8v gti metering head and airbox.
now waiting till friday to collect my new 16v metering head and reverse switch to continue with some work.
might get round to mounting my washer bottle soon too!

| ok, so here goes.
Fitted the 16v metering head she noe appears to start easier.
Todd turned up and i took him round the street, he seemed to think it shifted too... Got back n chucked the car back in the garage, then quickly fixed the heater switch to todds caddy, now he has heat "settings"!
Then set to work on the reversing lights, after i little fiddle with the bulb holders i managed to get the lights to come on when the wires were conected together. so i put some spade connectors on the end of the wires then screwed in my new reversing switch (thanks to vwmike) connected the switch to the wires and the reversing lights stay on constantly, so i'll look at that tomorrow, along with the water squirter that i wired in but wouldn't work. Nowt wrong with the pump, its defo the switch or fuse.
