arent they all quattros? Also the engine is longitudinal so it will have a transaxle gearbox... and the selector will be inside the box with the stick mounted at the back on top no rods or cables.

You'll find those lumps in the a8's mainly dude, and there are some fwd models around. Also the manual gearboxes are cable change. You gotta do it!

if you're going v8 i assume you're for mid engined and rwd? there is a dude with a mid mounted rs4 in a caddy, you should try and find him as he may have some pretty useful advice.

just read this on wikipedia

For 1997, the new A8 was available with either front-wheel drive (FWD), or the Torsen-based quattro permanent four-wheel drive. The FWD models are powered by a 2.8L V6 engine, producing 193 PS (142 kW/190 bhp), and 3.7L V8 engine, while the quattro received a 4.2L V8 producing 310 PS (230 kW/310 bhp).

doesnt say what power the 3.7 lump produces but its not gonna be close to the 4.2, but that only comes in quattro.

will a 3.7 maunual box fit the 4.2 engine? its all getting very complicated!
