| which audis came with the 4.2 v8?
im thinking about one for the caddy, its one of these or a vr that i may turbo in the future.
also does anybody know anything about the gearboxes on the v8 lumps? are they a cable change like the vr?

| arent they all quattros? Also the engine is longitudinal so it will have a transaxle gearbox... and the selector will be inside the box with the stick mounted at the back on top no rods or cables. | |

| You'll find those lumps in the a8's mainly dude, and there are some fwd models around. Also the manual gearboxes are cable change. You gotta do it! | |

| if you're going v8 i assume you're for mid engined and rwd? there is a dude with a mid mounted rs4 in a caddy, you should try and find him as he may have some pretty useful advice. | |

| cheers for the info brad, cant find any fwd audi v8s anywhere, and only found one quattro with a manual box!
wanna think about this tho, would deffo be cooler than a vr6! | |

| just read this on wikipedia For 1997, the new A8 was available with either front-wheel drive (FWD), or the Torsen-based quattro permanent four-wheel drive. The FWD models are powered by a 2.8L V6 engine, producing 193 PS (142 kW/190 bhp), and 3.7L V8 engine, while the quattro received a 4.2L V8 producing 310 PS (230 kW/310 bhp). doesnt say what power the 3.7 lump produces but its not gonna be close to the 4.2, but that only comes in quattro. will a 3.7 maunual box fit the 4.2 engine? its all getting very complicated! | |

| the 3.6/3.7 V8 is more common to find than the 4.2, i'll have a word with a mate to see if he has any in his yard | |
