| last night the golf took a good 10 minutes to start, and a couple of times it back fired seriously loud its never ever has any trouble starting and once it started there was no werid noises or anything, and after getting it home i turned it off and it started stright up, really odd. is it something i should worry about? what do people think? cheers | |

| just a guess i think the coolent temp sensor can stop it starting sometimes, only a guess though | |

| i aint got a clue haha it just started first time like normal:S but engine is making a tapping noise | |

| doesnt have a temp sensor as its a carb. It will be the auto choke i bet dude. | |

| i mate who was in a car infront of me said when it back fired smoke came from the engine? could it of been the carb popping?
it seems fine now, the tapping has stopped as well. hopfully it was just a one off thing | |

| Give the car a service billy. back fire is caused by unburnt fuel in the chamber then eventually igniting causing the loud bang.
Sounds light possible damp/cracked dizzy hence it not send spark to plug for it to fire.
New dizzy cap and plugs should do the trick. Winters coming so it wont hurt to replace them anyway. | |

| It wouldnt start if it was running to rich that could cause it back fire out of the carb | |

| yea it does need a service, just need to wait till i get paid again. so why did volkswagen make a mk2? Oh yea because mk1s werent good enough | |
