MK1 Golf "the more door whore"........KERMIT

Well hello all,

Now those that know me will have known that i havent had the best last 12 months, those that dont know, you dont wanna know!!

Anyway Project Grubby/Dennis the menace is dead, well to me anyway she holds too many bad memories and i dont have the enthusiasm for her anymore. (any comments on when did you have enthusiasm beware..i still play with guns and fight in cages for fun lol)

Now i had hankered over a mk1 for a few years, had seen ones go by, seen Lee's 9a take shape, Simons hit the road, Marks fall apart on the drive!! and when the bum chums sodded off to worthersee this year i thought f##k it, its now or never, i need a fresh pallette, so after a bit of looking and searching, asking questions and whatnot i made the splash into mk1 ownership and et voila "the more door whore"











She turned up on ebay as "unfinished golf project" with 12 hours to go, so alarm set, i got up at 7am on a weekend morning and chucked a cheeky bid on with 20 seconds to go.....well i won!! and my mum n dad got for me as a birthday pressie, for the grand total of......

Yes i s**t you all not, myself and Mike went and collected it, Thanks dude and when we rolled up at a professional body repair place we knew we might be lucky every panel and rust area has been cut out, replaced, repaired and primed!! it was completely full to the roof with panels and boxes.

Apparently the owners son had bought it, decided to rebuild it, realised he had no skill then lost interest (sounds familiar ) but had bought new wings, bonnet, lights, front n rear, and a dozen boxes of bits..£600 worth of receipts for parts.

so i've since fitted the non-genuine wings two dozen bloody times ponced around with the bonnet, and stripped the interior. Speaking to mark, he reckons a weekends worth of final prep and its ready for paint

So yes, its a tintop, yes its got 5 doors, and yes the bodyworks been done.. its what i wanted to build and im chuffed to bits!!

looks good dude, looks you you came out on top of that deal, think your well in with your chums now youve got a mk1.

what engines going in? if you want to fit in you need another 16v, or be a man and run a cross flow 8v

Man up woman and get on with it...you've had a week or 2 to put it together and get it MOT'd

dont be harsh Joe, they will still abuse me as it has more doors, and my sig block is a cheeky dig at it all haha.
No 16v lump going in either so well n truely chumless lol.

golf mk1 but project mk2 hahaha, looking forward to helping ya get it prepped for paint jim, will be a peice of cake after this red rot box of mine

Not done a lot to it this week, mainly due to all hands on Marks mk1..

Have decided to bin the pattern wing that came with this as i just wasnt happy with the fit and have used a set off Lee, (thanks mate) they are a better fit and only need the slightest of fettling...i think 15lb sledge should do it.

Someone obviously went to a lot of effort making sure all the dodgy areas have been rectified/replaced, so i intend to continue this and do this one through to the end and enjoy it.

Plans will be on hold till after edition due to other mk1 needs, but hoping to pick some needed bits whilst at edition

Mine is now just a shell sitting in the driveway with the roof cut off and literally rusting away. But if you need any bits then the rest of my car is in my garage and for sale

Weekly update time.....

Well edition has been and gone, and although marks mk1 didnt make it, we had a good time working on his, now its time to get back on track with our own projects..

Soooo....Edition threw up some ideas and plans, i have a fair idea what im planning,

Went back to my wings as when i hung the doors, Lees wings lined up nowhere near my doors....yet fine with his!!



Today, i stripped out the exhaust system, as its being replaced. and took the plunge and decided that this will be getting a clean smooth bay with tucked loom, no coolant lines etc. heres how i left it today







Tomorrow i'll continue to clean out the sealant grime thats in it. Seems like this empty bay thing is catching:

Spent monday night degunking the drivers side chassis leg and turret!! what a s**t job still its easier than the mk2 one, and im seeing progress.

forgot my camera so next time will post pics

well spent another couple of hours on the whore tonight, Lee was down too so its sort of becoming a clean your bay competition haha. im sure we'll assist each other where needed.

if he does it and it looks pooh, i'll know not too and vice versa hahaha

Coming along nicely, got some bits to trim off, like washer bottle mounts etc. was going to do the raintray, but after some deliberation its staying...gotta be there for a purpose right?

Well a bit of an update since wednesday.

Been on it a few nights the last week, im away next week so tried to get ahead of the game a little. i've taken the plunge and gone the opposite of Lee.....raintrays out!! ive got a few little hard to reach parts to get out but its 99% out now.







well its a dirty job, but someones gotta do it!!!!! (could make that into a song )

interiors pretty much sorted now too, due to some lucky dealings.

like i say, away till next weekend but then back on it. welding up the holes, passenger side, then its strip the back end and off to powdercoat.

if your thinking of stripping and cleaning your bay, but want someone else to do it............dont ask me!!!!!!!

Well weekly update....not that i think anyone reads it haha.

managed to get a day on the whore today, with the help of Si, my human lightstand and spot weld finder...cheers mate

cracked on with doing the final parts of the raintray. then took out the battery tray, all remaining lugs and brackets:









removed all the crap and sealant gunk from behind the raintray, took it down to bare metal to remove any inperfections, then gave it a quick coat of primer. just got the other side to do, remove the heater thingy and plate the gap.

Plans for the week are to do the above, then get the gaps in the bulkhead filled and sorted. then work down the other chassis leg.
