| Wont the wheels/tyres now hit the shocks/springs? moving them in that far | |

when i measured it up i had nearly 3" between the edge of the rim and the standard shock. now using coilovers which are generally not as cumbersome as the standard shock, there is still space to run them. There was method to this madness lol

| Wheels must have lots of ofset then, my 7 inch wide et 35 miss the rear spring by about 5mm, as you say the 2.25 coilover spring is thinner, but not by much. i dont doubt you know what youre doing | |

| he is running adapters too, 15mm from memory. so really im sure he does no what he is on about.
not that a 7j wheel relates offsets the same as something around 2 inches wider

| But it would have been pointless saying my wheels are close to the springs without giving the dimensions. | |

The wheels have an extremely low offset, almost minus figures so my 8.5" will still miss the shocks. Joe, your right with adapters, originally 20mm, been machined down to get that just right fitment. well just a quick pic update as the weather was great yesterday..... its just in rattle can primer for the time being...back out now. cheers

| Well another day on her, the weathers been poop, in and out the garage but more done now to clear this narrowed rear beam, will it hit/wont it hit dilemma, i bolted up the rear beam, stud axle, rear brake assembly, adapter and rear wheel. i didnt have a coilover handy so used 2" tubing in the strut mount. the following pics show the space available: that space is approx 25mm (1") with 20mm adapter, now when these are shaved down (prob 5-6mm) i still have plenty of space HOWEVER!!!....................... Fronts are the same story now the pic doesnt show it very well but thats 35mm poke!!!! sooooo............ watch this space | |

yeah i think so!! think i may have found a solution though..just waiting on an answer, fingers crossed. go back to work tomorrow so had some time on it today just a quick pic update really. eagle eyed amongst you may have realised in past pictures that in my smoothed look exhuberance, we'd welded up the throttle cable hole!! only noticed myself lastnight, and ive looked at this bay for months!!!!! DOH!!! anyway managed to drill out the weld and dremel the hole neat. then when it got dark outside started looking at how i'm going to get my recaros to fit! my seats didnt come with subframes, so its either locate n buy a pair of mk1/2 recaro subframes...or make my own custom ones! i'll finish the mock-ups tomorrow at work and post pics when happy. cheers

| Evening, Nothing major really, just more shots of the bay....pretty much there now thank god!! theres a small area left under the cover on the right hand side which will be done by end of week. Frickin crap quality pics though sorry....and photobucket doesnt help!!! not really showing it off but at least it shows progress no comments on the choice of towel covers please haha So before i dissappear again for 8-9 weeks i've got the following to sort: 1. Collect rear dishes from Joe 2. Paint wheel centres 3. build up rear wheels...barrels, centres, dishes, sealed etc 4. collect powdercoated bits...rear beam, engine mounts, brake servo mount, finally decided on a paint colour too, this one i'm stcking to aswell, so thats it, off to painters with help from VW Mike whilst i'm away And all being well on my return i'll come back to a freshly painted car, a load of new shiny bits to fit!! almost like xmas Cheers | |

| weekly update time...... now my painter fell through, or rather went under!! so i decided lets do all the things i wanted to do to my golf to make it that little different, individual yet never had the time or resources to do... A few posts ago i showed my issues with front wheel poke etc so it was time to strip down the front end, and narrow the entire front track by 3" (1 1/2" each side) now pictures dont really it justice, but both wishbones were brand new so no rust/crusty issues, stitch welded too for a bit of added strength. driveshafts are on there way i'll put an adapter and wheel on tomorrow and piccy it hopefully showing just a nice amount of tuck. Other thing ive always liked, and thought was a smart idea was header tank in the strut brace..i.e. like big rons and the orange mk1 at ed38 2010. however what i didnt like was the fact they were both chrome tubed, thin as, bolt on strut braces, possibly not actually giving any structural benefits at all. now i know i'm not going to set the world alight with bhp etc but i wanted a different look, with form and function! So 43mm rollcage tubing was bent and lined up, put in, taken out, put in etc untill the bends were correct, then welded direct to my smoothed, turrets!! why did i bother?? lol Filler neck being welded in After a little cleaning of the welds, and a touch of filler/primer to stop the orange stuff coming through this bloody pic looks like its not even bends??....i CAN assure you, this is spot on, same angles etc BOTH sides!! and its strong as!!! after standing on it, can vouch for it Now, your either gonna like it, or not gonna like it.....but i do, and i'm building it for me, not you!!............enjoy | |

| Hey!!... Not been about to really add or update this for awhile, so while ive got a few moments here goes..... I've moved to Germany , cars currently residing at caddys house and ive got a new heated/air-con facility to build it up!! off away for a month soon so will get it brought over after that i reckon. She never got to paint whilst i was away, various dramas and hold-ups...still realised i needed to roll the arches, tidy up some of the fill, basically i ran out of time Managed to get some parts though whilst i was away... Cheers mike for collecting them also got to ED38 and picked a few bits... Pressed show plates, carbon fibre bumpers and endcaps, and got a few metres of material thrown in for free So decided to have a go at retrimming the centre of the Lupo Magnesium 3L wheel i got out here in Germany, with a bit of tartan.. doesnt look half bad, just need to stitch n titivate a little. Painted up the centres of my ronals as was sick of looking at different coloured wheels....wont be staying this colour mind, just a can i had laying around. just gotta collect the front lips from Joe and paint n build up time So things have been happening with the whore, inbetween Olympic support work, Kenya tour, Moving house n country i dont think ive done too bad.. Cheers all for looking, and remember...read my post in chit-chat if you wanna take advantage of my new location | |
