| i did think it looked like an arc welding mess but then i thought it cant be as im the only one daft enough to weld anything other than farm machinery with an arc welder. Im glad ive found somebody with the same fondness for the arc welder haha. | |

| I Had a list of things i wanted to do in these past couple of weeks.. Fit exhaust system, Service Fit Gti Cam The Exhaust system got fitted, and i gave it a good service, and gave the carb a clean and rebuild. So this morning i set about changing the Cam for a Gti one i had sitting about doing not a lot.. After looking at a couple of links on here on how to change the cam, and understanding none of it, i thought sod it, ill have a go. So without knowing really what i was supposed to be doing, i loosened the cambelt, and removed the cam, (having no idea about the timing marks, etc, on this engine i lined up the arrow on the pulley with a point on the head) i then replaced the cam, and belt, and re-attatched the tensioner. turned it over a few times by hand, seemed fine, so i started it up, and ran lumpy as anything. so had a look, and a fettle, and turned out to be a tooth out on the timing. But hey, all running fine now, happy days. Went out for a drive in it, and my god the difference is unbelieveable just by putting a STANDARD Gti cam in! Pulls so much better, and is really revvy now, flies upto 5.5/6k! So well chuffed now. no major plans for the moment.. so ill have to think of some things to be getting on with. Heres a couple of pics from when a friend came round with his mk at the weekend. Jonny | |

| Little update again. Finally got round to giving the wheels a fresh coat of paint, mainly cause someone made me curb 2 wheels and i couldnt bare to leave them scuffed. I am going to miss little kids seeing it in town and saying 'Look Mum/Dad, YELLOW WHEEL!'. The front number plate fell off in the week, and i havent bothered putting it back on. Gave the car a good clean as well, giving the number plate recess a nice tidy up. Jonny | |

| Well.. not all good news.. Last night i had a blow out on the rear at about 75mph.. tyre shreaded with a second or so.. then even worse.. the wheel decided to come off!! So after getting the car to a stop, on a busy main road, i frantically got my mate to lift the car slightly so i could just about get the little jack under the sill to get the spare wheel on. once that was on, i had a search around for the wheel, but in the dark i didnt have a hope in hell. so i went back this morning to look, all i found was my wheel spacer, spigot ring, and the centre cap from the wheel. And i found a trail off the road in the long grass where the wheel had travelled, straight into the river beside the road... :( So im now on the look out for a single 15x8 Schmidt Modernline alloy wheel. Think im better off looking for some poop from a wooden horse that rocks! the Rear drum is slightly scuffed from dragging on the ground, and the arch has been pulled a bit where the wheel came off. Not a good night :( | |

| Did the wheel coming off not strip the threads from the hub? | |

Only on one bolt hole, im assuming where i had a bit of scrubbing, where i hit the big bump the impact on the arch pulled the one bolt, and made the others come loose.

| If i thought it was as simple as just going in the river at the point the wheel went in, i might have made an effort, but how strong the current is, i dont fancy jumping in, and the strenghth of the tide and current, theres no telling where the wheel will be now :(

I used standard bolts, but they fit perfectly into the bolt hole, the taper on the bolthead fits correctly into the tapered hole in the wheel. Jonny
