| ive been putting off making a build thread for my car a while now until something actually changed on it as no one wants to read about a standard car. But now that my new wheels are iminent i thought i may as well get the ball rolling. About 3ish months ago I drove down to luton or where ever it was and brought R2D2, the name originated from one of my mates reading the number plate wrong and it just kind of stuck. its a '99 gt tdi 110 VE AHF diesel. which isnt slow and is awesome on fuel! heres what it looked like when i picked it up. since ive got it i haven't really done much to it apart from intsalling a double din head unit and giving it a good service. but after browsing edition aimlessly i came across a set of wheels that i though "i must have these!". heres a picture of the wheels in question so after a lengthy phone convo with the seller who was sound, kit(lupton20vt) and i drove up to Lincolnshire to get them for 500 sheets. they are staggered 8.5' x17 and 9.5 x17 with ets of about 30 odd. i dropped round Guys house on the way back to see how much he wanted to sand blast them and he ended up doing 2 whilst i waited. so for now i finished preparing 2 of the centres and polished up the 4 barrels. now im going through the gruesomely long ordeal of polishing up the bolts heres how they sit at the moment. centre ready for paint (cheers again guy) i cleaned the backs up a little bit a bit of elbow grease and polish does wonders the obligatory dish shot plans are(i seem to always be waiting for the next pay cheque) : ¬ get some 225/45/17s all round ¬ get some ap coilovers and drop it down from the shitty boat handling ¬ either r32 front bumper or us spec front and rline (no cut outs) rear ¬ get an install sorted these are just the starters but im not putting all my cars on the table just yet

| my old scirocco was matte black and it was an arse to keep clean cos the dirt sort of got into the paint. because of this i would advise doing them in satin | |

| right i thought i might as well bite the bullet this month and live like a student again. decided to splash out another £500 on coilovers and a arb. i brought a set of practically unused FK Silverline X Coilovers and a new whiteline arb. well almost a set of fk's as the rear shocks were replaced with kw ones. here are some pictures, hopefully i will be picking them up next weekend when i go down to see my brother in hackney. well that is if the ebay lads dont screw me over. should have them fitted up within the end of the month. | |

| i think you need shortened drop links but i may be wrong. whiteline arbs go under the drive shafts so that they dont rub regardless of how low you are. same as the r32 ones | |

| right ive had a few bits of bad luck recently. my coolant keeps leaking out somewhere so for the time being(until i get the time to get some radweld) im having to drive around with a topped up 2l bottle of water. also i drove to cambs last night to see a bird, pulled up at the multi story near her house went to put the window down and "thunk", it had frozen in place. But the window U mount bits (not sure of their name) went down, this meant that when i hit my window to break the ice the glass fell off or the brackets and meant i couldn't do my window up... great. after finding a screw driver in my glove box i got the door card off but dude to mk4s being over engineered there is a second metal sheet held on by about 8 bolts. as you can tell my night was getting better and better. but low and behold the bird i was seeing had small enough hands to pull the window up out of the top and held it whilst i reconnected the mounts. Every cloud has a silver lining though i got to use the classic "i know one way we can warm up..." but on the plus side i'm picking up my coilovers tomorrow and i think ive just found insperation for a different back bumper | |
