| Hi there,
Can anyone give me any ideas of what to look out for when buying a mk4 golf gti t..... i do know about the back suspentiomn bushes.. oh and front but thats it really.....
i've got one to see this afternoon, blk 5 dr gti turbo 150bhp 31,000 on clock 1 owner....

| ask if its had a windscreen because if thay aint fitted properly like my gfs one was it leaks water common problem feel both back foot well for dampness signs | |

| i have heard theses can suffer oil trouble big time so check leaks n i also knw me m8 who i use to wrk the doors with has 1 on 83k n his brakes keep goin for some reason n engine management light pops on all the time in his i would recommend mk4 nt 5 if any but its ur choice | |

hello......blue.. hay do you know if merc wheels will fit on a mk4, i've seen some with the same stud patteren 112 and off set of 35??? | |

hello......blue.. hay do you know if merc wheels will fit on a mk4, i've seen some with the same stud patteren 112 and off set of 35??? they dont fit mate ya need adaptors, 5x100(mk4 golf) to 5x112(mk5 golf, merc, audi) adaptors are approx 200 notes a set of 4. | |

ya need adaptors, 5x100(mk4 golf) to 5x112(mk5 golf, merc, audi)
adaptors are approx 200 notes a set of 4. holly shite your joking, i saw some vw mk4 alloys on ebay and they had the same stud patteren??? have a look see what you think! |

| problems i have seen with mk4;s are a sloppy gear linkage so really hard to get 1st 3rd and 5th, also the turbos are not the strongest on the 150 should be ko3 but you wont be able to tell unless it smokes its tits off and just check oil pressure is good when warm oh and the annoying starter squeek just chirps up after key is turned nothing to worry about just annoying. | |

well cheers for all your help peeps, i've had it hpi'd and theres nothing wrong with it there, just need to check the vin numbers match, for a car thats done 31,000 on a 2001 the price an't that bad..... brads buying my old girl...going to see the new project tue if the bank loves me!!! | |

| if the gearboxs are anything like the DUU ones that are coupled to the 1600 akl engines be very carefull the diffs are rivited instead of welded or bolted ( not sure which one ) they split and go through the side of the casing. any probs tho i can get hold of recon turbos and gearboxes | |

| some of the turbo ones have a problem with the bottem pipe in the intercooler i think | |
