PostSubject: kiefers mk2 8v build   kiefers mk2 8v build EmptyMon Nov 09 2009, 18:48

well i said id start some sort of build thread
so here goes.

i bought this mk2 through ebay of some bloke in london for 200 quid i though i
had a steal at that price, considering the photos he had looked semi like a
show car, the only thought i had was respray and slamming, well heres the pic
he had on ebay among others

kiefers mk2 8v build 1-vi

what he told me on ebay was that all it needed
was a fuel pump and the drive shafts putting back in and 2 new front seats fair
enough i thought thats ok il have it so send the courier to pick it up without
me having a good look which i blatantly should of before i payed seeing as the
condition it was in when i got a look, the engine had been half waythrough
being converted to a gti but then he must've gave up or something cuz all he
did was stick a gti cylinder head on, the interior well there wasnt one to be
frank the carpet was missing the rear bench was mullered and same with the 1
door card that was present kiefers mk2 8v build Lol the paint had completely faded and flaked in
some places the bonnet had been modded by him using only filler and no fibre
glass so that fell to bits as soon a sit had pressure put on it, and the
tailgate had had the smoothed mood on it but the pleb in all his wisdom didnt
even fink to fit any locking system or popper or nefing so that had to go as
well, needless to say i had my work cut out for me lol

well 1 month later i primered the car including the gay bonnet but not the
tailgate,

kiefers mk2 8v build 2-vi

then not even a week later and i got a new
bonnet tailgate and a new interior all for 70 quid which i'm quite happy with,
just a shame i got the bonnet and tailgate after i primered it bloody typical Smile

the new tailgate

kiefers mk2 8v build 3-vi

and the new bonnet

kiefers mk2 8v build 4-vi

this was the only pic i managed to get of the
interior
before

kiefers mk2 8v build 5-vi

but with the new carpet. thanks to mates
scrapyard freebie Smile

after with the rainbow interior only front seat pic tho Smile
not the greatest pic but you can sort of get the gist of the style for them

kiefers mk2 8v build 6-vi

here's the engine i was having all the issues
with

kiefers mk2 8v build 7-vi

and thats as far as i've got. I've taken the knackered one out and
just gotta pick up the new one, il be taking fresh pics with a proper camera and
not a phone this week or next so il show you the new engine and the work in
progress plus some ideas that i think are pretty cool for the bonnet and
tailgate Smile
any comments completely welcome

This is basically what i've got in mind for my bonnet
and tailgate, i just love how it slightly sits over the lights think it looks
brilliant, and the outcome on this blokes project is amazing. i should be
starting it tommorow dependant on the weather, plus il be spraying the car dark
platinum grey with flake mix in it. il add the pics then, well

kiefers mk2 8v build 8-vi

kiefers mk2 8v build 10-vi

kiefers mk2 8v build 11-vi

well i've made some progress on the bonnet today only got 2 hours to play with it today, so only little bit of progress

kiefers mk2 8v build 14-vi

started measuring up for the lip with some crappy not so thick steel

kiefers mk2 8v build 15-vi

tried cutting along the steel with tin snips, didn't really work that
well, so i'll have to get some half decent cutting discs for the grinder

kiefers mk2 8v build 16-vi

grinded along the bonnets edge ready for the welding

kiefers mk2 8v build 17-vi
some not so great tacking, my welder is shite kiefers mk2 8v build Lol

kiefers mk2 8v build 18-vi
me hard a work welding, got some serious arc eye from all that kiefers mk2 8v build Lol
should've kept the helmet on, why do they have to be so god damn irritating!?
lol

kiefers mk2 8v build 12-vi

kiefers mk2 8v build 13-vi

and well thats all the pics i got so far, forgot to take a pic
of the finished result, but i've grinded down the weld tacks, just gotta
cut the sheet down at the bottom to make it fit then weld a triangle
cut into the lamp corners then its ready to be filled, smoothed and
primered kiefers mk2 8v build 460227

Iv copied this build thread from my the other forum i'm on (mk2ownersclub.com)

I've tried to edit your post so that its not quite so "all over the place" but cant seem to get it right and dont want to risk deleting half of it so give up! kiefers mk2 8v build 298631

Lets try to keep the comments constructive, slagging others cars off or stating they should scrap it is really not necessary hence i have deleted the posts, everyone has different tastes and if we all did the same thing then it would be boring.

lads the only reason its buggered up is because he's copied and pasted the html code with it. just go through it mate and delete all the <td> <tr> <table> <span> and pretty much anything in those sort of brackets. that should sort it out kiefers mk2 8v build 51732

as for the car its not to my taste but still looks really cool. so glad you got rid of that f50 bonnet lol

wouldnt you be better off extinding the bonnet with one piece of metal? when you weld the 2 or more parts together they will distort and be a bugger to get right

you may already know all this, so if you do forgive me for being patronising. just tack them together along the joint and then using a dolly behind give the tacks a whack with a hammer to flatten it. it should stay flat when you weld it. everything else will distort mind you. also if you have a lump of thick aluminium or copper lying around clamp that to the back of it to soak some of the heat up. you'd be surprised how much it helps.

cheers for the heads up on the copper/aluminium suggestion thats a real good idea cant believe i didnt think of that! lol and as fot the dolly suggestion i would of but dont have a dolly or anything i can use as one unfortunatly but thanks again for the suggestions much appreciated kiefers mk2 8v build 51732
