My brakes are far superior to what i had before and well worth it. ive obviously not tried different brake combinations and different power out puts so i wouldnt listen to me... listen to this man..........

| standard mk1 is 239mm with a vented disc. I would go with a 239mm vented brembo disc with some pagid pads, the same MC and servo setup as yours matty and it will stop bloody well. It was good enough for a heavier 8vgti and early 16v gti mk2 so it will be good enough for a lighter mk1(or caddy).
most of the time everybody is like WOW A BIGGER DISC IT MUST BE BETTER rather than considering anything else.

Awesome stopping power now. Matty and joe, i'll show ya next time i see ya. As for 239 pads, dont bother with pagid, go for ferodo race pads. Expensive at around £70 but sh1t me they good, just ask rixy because they was fitted to his caddy then eventually on a mk3 polo.

| of course race pads will be better they use a softer compound. The only problem with race pads is they dont last very long. You dont need a race pad on the road you will be hurting your wallet for no reason. | |

No wasnt aimed at you really its just the general consensus that people seem to believe that bigger is better... You can get a 4 pot caliper for 239 discs and that will be massively better than say a VW 320mm setup.. Its not the disc size that counts so much that only gives you a bit more contact area and better heat dispersion, clamping power is more important... i think your forgetting a fact though lee... 1) its a truck its not gonna need race brakes. 2) I dont think joe's gonna take it on track 3) Its a caddy LOW on 13s hes hardly gonna be doing any b road thrashing as it wont have a sump 4) You cant actually have any fun on the road without losing your license these days anyway especially with the number of unmarked around at the moment.

| wowa woooa lots to think about. defo going for the bigger set up. just had another read through the guide in golf+ and it states that you wont benifit overly much from having the bigger servo and mc if you dont upgrade the calipers etc the other end. wellers are pretty much sold already unfortanitly kinda sucks as i put a fair amount of time making them different :pale: | |

| didnt get much done just a little bit of sanding. dad went to a pipe benders today a picked up some 90 angles to start on the air ducting system that were going to make to get cold air onto the carbs which are going to have a big filter over them. just about to order that and some other bits and bobs now also got a top fill rad hopefuly ariving thursday. heres a couple of pictures to keep the enthusiasm going sorry they are a bit poop though B) heres the pass side engine mount after a second skim and sanding, got the shape now just needs finishing off around the corners and a few low spots here and there. will finish bot sides up over the week end i hope. not much going to happen between now and the week end though :tb heres how she sits at the mo. it seems as if nothings left, which as dad pointed out is a good thing as parts can only go back on now which is a good way to look at things i suppose. anyways comments as usual please guys... oh also forgot no one else pm me about selling the wellers as they have already sold, but cheers for all the interest already :I | |

| this week ends progress...started out yesterday by finaly making my mind up where to go with this project. finaly decided its not going to be my daily, so now the bar has been risen to a real high startard so i can enter show and shine etc. deicded on what im doing wit the wiring, scuttle and how far the smoothing is going, im only going to smooth off what i have so far and just fill all the holes that im not using so i can create a smooth but still factory finish when its done. anyways been grinding most of the weekend removing as much of the seam sealer as i can with a grinder then using a blow tourch to burn the rest off. takes a long time but it will be worth it once its all gone. heres how the lower area was this morning after it had been ground with the wire wheel thne this is after some more grinding with a rust/paint removal disk and a bit of buring and scraping with a blow tourch and screw driver. and a cool pik of buring the sealer off also made the decision to cut the scuttle out, wont be driven daily so wont have to put up with the loud noise that aparently you gain by cutting it out. will be doing something i havent seen before with it so should work out ok. all comments welcome as usual guys | |
