| hi guys, i have a churping sound coming from the aux belt area, think its from the water pump pully but not sure. is the water pump a common fault? it a mk2 jetta 1.6 8v. | |

| Yes.
Get a piece of rubber tube, place it on top of the water pump and put it to your ear. If it's shagged you'll hear it, place the tube on other things like pas pump or alternator. It could also be the tensioner pulley, these are common failures. Be carefull with the tube don't get it caught it'll whip you hard ! It's an old trick for locating the source of noise but it works well.

| defo water pump. loads of play in pully. to the point its rubbing on cam belt cover | |

| no not leaking. i just ordered one from euros, £18 and pully £9. but i do have a account with them lol | |

| I bet you wll need a back too as they normally snap the bolts in the housing, if you do I have about three of them, the £30 included a backing too and a thermotwat.
