| hi, i have a 1972 beetle with a serious oil leak. its drinking oil like its going out of fashion lol. we have changed the rocker cover gasgets that helped slightly, is there anywhere else i should cheak before i take it anywhere.

| the oil strainer (round plate on the bottom of the engine) is a very common place for an oil leak on these as is the pushrod tube seals. To do the pushrod tube seals ideally the engine needs to come out as the heads need to be loosened off and pushrods removed. Id start with the strainer as its just a few 10mm nuts and a paper gasket. All the oil will come out when you remove it though so good time to do an oil and strainer changed. Smear a little instant gasket on the paper gasket both sides before refitting.
You say its drinking oil, is it burning it or is it definitely leaking? | |

| the oil cooler is a common place to look and replace the seals as ive just done mine
best idea is to clean the engine up and then run the engine so u can see where abouts its coming from | |
