| Hello all Just bought a Mk2 Jetta 1.6TX with a 2.8 VR conversion.. Engine is a good runner and the conversion is good but it Seems to be perhaps "an unfinished project" although the engine runs sweet it has a few other issues... I bought it from a local dealer, who claims he was driving it daily for a few weeks.. Anyhow.. Firstly... The rev counter has stopped working (Dealer man claims it stopped working while he was using it) I know theses work off the coil but not really sure how exactly.. The water temp guage in the dash is not working... its got some horrible aftermarket guage in the centre console.. and its GOT TO GO and get the original working. The computer in the dash doesn't work at all.. displays nothing.. No idea how this works.. Any help would be very much appreciated as I wanna finish the car off ASAP. Thanks, Ashley | |

| I'm betting its got a mk2 set of clocks in and your man's full of it. (ie its a 6 pot and will not run correctly on a 4 pot tacho) If its mk3, then it's a relatively easy job to just check the wiring using the original wiring diagram and a test meter. There are (up to) three water temp senders on these engines any one could be at fault. For the life of me I cant remember which one relates to the dash but all of them fit into a housing on the front of the engine at the end of the 'crack' pipe. I believe them to be blue yellow and brown.(iirc) Check they are all plugged in properly. Now check your fuses inspect each one, CAREFULLY. There is a way to measure the resistance of these sensors at certain temps and you can check to see if they're buggered or not. I do not have these values at hand. Good luck ! | |

| Hello.. Sorry for the long arse reply, been very busy lol... Anyhow, it would seem you are correct Guy, it is indeed running Mk2 clocks hence why the Rev's aren't working.. Good call mate ! As for the Temperature isssue.. The black one is missing and fitted with a blank... My mate who is rather good with his VW's reckons it's an easy fix which is always good ! I'm guessing for the Rev's I'm gonna need to find myself a set of MK3 clocks then ? Ash. | |

| im sure its possible to convert the mk2 rev counter to work with the 6 pot signal as lots of people keep the mk2 clocks. | |

| Found this for you: You may fid this some help? Shamefully stolen from mk2vr6. You'l need this diagram also: http://www.a2resourc...trical/CE2.htmlQuote First of all, remove the plastic cover above the coilpack held on with the two splined nuts, and pull the HT leads out of the way, coz they are just plain annoying. You should be able to see the top of the coilpack, theres an electrical connector with 5 pins, and 4 thin metal strips with 10mm nuts on the end, you will need to attach leads to these in a minute but you need to make them first. Basically cut 4 small lengths of narrow gauge sender cable(about 40mm each), bare back the ends. Next, you will need 2 x 1k resistors. Cut the legs down to about 20mm and solder a length of cable to each end of each resistor. Then make sure you either heat shrink or put insulating tape over the resistors. You will now need to attach one end of one lead to the top connector on the coilpack and tighten, do the same with the other lead on the next connector down. Now, join the two free ends together and solder to a single lead(this will be the one which goes inside the car, so make it long). Route the long single cable into the car and to the fusebox... you can now cover your coilpack back up. Pull your fusebox out, and find the connectors which deal with your clocks etc ( its plug U1). Find the solid green wire on the U1 blue plug, cut it off and solder your feed cable to the bit of wire which goes off to the clocks and insulate. In order to have a fully working rev guage on mk2 7k clocks you will need to use the two posts ontop of your coilpack closest to the firewall and need 2x 1k resistors (1/4 watt iirc) Im sure ive got a load of 1k 1/4watt resistors kicking about as well you can have for nothing | |
