Ive now sold the mk4 so it's time for a new daily thread. Im back in a mk2 and it isn't an auto
I got the mk2 back in april at Big Bang. In the for sale area where I first spotted it:




It was cheap so a couple of us got it between us.
We took some night pics at big bang the day we got it




We lined up the convoy for the way home and Bex drove it back.



We left it sat for a couple of months while we decided what to do with it and I decided to buy mark out of his share because it would be easier than converting my mk2 driver to manual. When I came to drive it, both rear tyres were flat so I drove it with my green castellets on for a bit. They don't look good on red at all!




I went to take some photos with Dean in Lavenham with the 2 16vs.





I had to get the original rear tyres plugged because they both had screws in them.
All I have done to it so far is take out the eco tec valve because it was making stupid noises, take the tow bar off and lose the rear wiper which had broke and was stuck in the middle of the rear window.

My plans are to put on the brand new pov spec coilovers Ive had sitting in the barn for about six months and maybe put these crappy RSs on. There is a bit of rust near the towing point and a few bits of paint that need sorting too but Im pleased with it. Much more fun than a mk4

It's far more fun being able to go down a scrapyard to pick bits up for super cheap too! Well, thats what i'm finding with the bimmer atm.
MK4 = parts with too much scene tax.

And i'm looking forward to see what you do with the "crappy RS's".

It's true about getting parts from scrapyards. Mk2s are getting rarer in scrapyards lately I have found but usually you can get everything very cheap.
I was going to split the RSs but I have been put off after following joes experiences with his going flat all the time. Ill probably split them in the future when I have the money.
They are painted all over the bolts and splits so Ill just paint them over again for now. I was thinking about black again or maybe red on red for a kind of motorsport look like the old autocavan(I think) track mk2. White could look good.

They are not mine we just tried them on when we got the car.
They are Compomotive split fuchs off a track porsche.
The pair in the pics are I think 16x8 and the other 2 are 16x9.

Im taking the golf to Cornwall for a week to go surfing on Monday. Then when I get back 3 days later Im taking it to France for a week. Hopefully lots of carefree miles to look forward to Holidays in a valver

First problem was a broken exhaust rubber so the exhaust was sat on the rear beam rattling about. Cable ties saved the day as usual



La Rochelle



At La Rochelle I managed to get a flat pneu and only had a space saver so had to ask where a garage was in French. All good fun and it was quite close to the camp.

We had good times and no real problems. I almost doubled the amount of miles Ive done in the GTI Because I havent been driving it long

My aunti lives about 30km outside of La Rochelle! did you go out to Fort Boyard? lol.

The roof basket is off now. I only had it on there for those trips. I took my bike all the way down there on the roof and went to pump the tyre up and the inner tube squeezed out and exploded in my face!

We didnt go to Fort Boyard but saw the boat trips leaving. We thought we might see Melinda Messenger running about. We went over the big bridge to Ile de Re. It's a great area We camped past La Rochelle nearer Roche Fort for a couple of nights.

I got round to putting the front coilovers on a couple of nights ago. I did the rears when I first got it on the road because the shocks were leaking badly.

First I had to chop a bit of arch because the tyres had done this with it on the 60mm springs it came on

I've wound the back down a bit more this afternoon to level it out

Can't be bothered to refurb them so theyre going on as they are

what sizes do you have?

I got 165/50s. Ive just had a call to tell me they have arrived at home so I'll get them fitted tomorrow.

A bloke that changed some tyres around for me for the caddy on Tuesday said he would pop them on for me. I needed a set of wheels to get rid of the caddy on and didn't want to buy tyres so took a couple off the old mk4 14s I had. He likes his vws and has put a 165/50 on an 8j before so no worries. Good to know

I can't get any normal valves anywhere for the wheels so I have had to order some shiny ones. I didn't want to because they will look odd on black painted wheels but it's all I can get. They will be good for when I replace the lips for when I put them on my beetle in the future. Ordered them from Just Mats and then got an email afterwards saying they are away from the office for 2 weeks on leave so Ive got to wait for them a while now

take it yours are the 8.3 hole then like mine? you could always paint them black like my gotti valaves have been.
