Well, i am far from a beetle expert, but i would start with a fuel pump (assuming its a mechanical type, its quite easy to check) after that blocked pick up in the tank? or a perished pipe leading to the tank (drawing in air?) as i say, not a bettle expert by any means.

possibly someone who knows beetles better will offer some more sensible advise not gettin fuel Icon_rolleyes

put a pipe from the fuel pump to a can of petrol see if that will start it, are the connections on the wrong way?

Also has it been fiddled with before? Maybe if the pump is still ok then the wrong pump pushrod has been fitted which means the pump will barely move it at all.

we've checked the fuel pump and the push rod is moving and i need a 108mm push rod which i have got in my fuel pump but maybe it could be the fuel pump as i am trying second hand ones, and everything else is tight as it isnt even puling it from a can but cheers for the advice so i may need to order a new fuel pump by the sounds of it as the engine has just recently been re built as well
