Can you put a golf mk3 2.0l gti in a 1.4l?

Hi,does anybody know if you can
put a vw golf mk3 2.0l 16v gti engine into a standard golf mk3 1.4l?
The gti is a 1995 and the 1.4 ia a 1998 a rare mk3 most 1998s are a
mk4.Any help on this would be great THANKS!

yes you can, if you have the whole GTI donor vehicle then it will just be straight swap. Not just the engine though, you'll need to transplant alot of the wiring loom, fuel tank, gearbox, shifter, you may be able to use your drive shafts if not then you might as well chuck the whole subframe on and go wide track. And if you do that then you should probably match it with a wide track rear axle too.
