| Nothing special, just standard MK2 1986 C reg Golf 1.8 4 + e
Its running at 2000 - 3000 in idle, ive adjusted the idle right back (even taken the screw out) and nothing changes. Although when i tighten it goes up to 3000 - 4000 ?!
Another thing, it over revs, ive adjusted the distributor and it was working fine for 2 days. but its started again ive de advanced it some more but still nothing,
Its doin my head in! im not a full pledged mechanic, but i do like to work on cars. basic stuff atm, but this shouldnt be too difficult!?
Finally ive fitted new Oil & Air Filter, New Oil, Spark Plugs, Ht Leads, Distributor Cap and Rotary Arm.
Any help will be GREATLY appreciated. | |

| sounds like an air leak to be honest, check all the hoses first, check theyre plugged in properly and actually hold vacuum. Then check the base gasket on the carb and that its properly secured (dont over tighten it ) If it is an air leak then some easy start carefully sprayed around (revs will rise) on the suspect places will help find it, if no easy start then brake cleaner (revs drop) will do. If it still fails then drop me a pm and we'll sort out a time for you to bring it over to me and I;ll have a look for you. | |
