I disagree really, the G40 engine offers you a few bits and pieces that make it more suitable in terms of cost than building up another engine to take boost. Namely the lower compression pistons, sodium filled valves for dealing with higher temperatures, engine management already setup to run boost.

Or like you say, you could spend £500 on a set of low comp pistons, £600+ on a standalone engine management system etc etc

I've done both now, and I agree a mildly tuned G40/G60 engine is a lot of fun on the road, but I also think that the G40 engine minus the G lader offers the potential to hit over 200bhp and will be a lot more reliable, and less harsh on an already over stressed gearbox.
