Will have taken delivery in the next 2 weeks of a complete 2.0ltr crossflow head (the one i have at the moment is missing quite a few bits)
Found the cam i want, and have emailed a gearbox company about a built box

Crossflow head arrived...and all is good! £26 bargain complete head which looks in pretty good condition (doesn't matter too much as it will be fully rebuilt with race valves and nice titanium valve springs and the biggest cam i think i can use safely )
Small change of plans now.
Going to be using a 90 spec fuse box as it will make it easier in the long run for rewiring the car myself. (thanks to Jim i now have one so can get on with the rewire )
And after speaking to Jacob i am now going with a cable change box most likely with VR6 1st to 4th gears and a diesel 5th gear. This is because there isn't much chance of a rod change box coping with the bhp i plan to put through it.

Will be 2.1 lightened and balanced crank and flywheel, forged internals, on carbs heavily ported and polished with Nitrous

Did a bit on Sunday before the F1
finally got some of the boot floor finished...
then gave it a quick coat of primer.
Plan for the future is to finish the inside back to baremetal ready for proper paint.
Get the welding done on the inside and engine bay...
Then it's cage time Once the cage is in i can get the wiring run and everything mounted for a dry build.

Just arranged for a mate back home to do the welding I need at the same time as fitting my cage
So plan is to buy my race seat and a slider so that fresh in the New Year I can take a few days off and take the Jetta up for cage fitting and fresh metal! Cannot wait now Todays been a good day...kept my job with a payrise and sorted the next stage!
In the words of Borat "Great Success!!!"
Roll on 2011!

Just read through your whole thread mate. Really good read for me, watching how the car has developed over the last 18 months or so. Quite inspring for me as I try to build mine, with some good pointers to.
Maybe you can help me understand one thing. What makes the 8V outperform the 16V when tunaged?
Cheers
Daz.

Thanks dude That's really good to hear Your car seems to be coming along loads now! I just hope the inside looks as good as yours when I've finished the prep and put some paint on.
With the engine choice, it's not so much that the 8v outperforms the 16v when it comes to tunage. For me it is personal choice and luck with the parts which i have come across. I have only ever had 8v cars and kind of like to keep it that way Everyone seems to shy away from tuning 8v's as they see them as expensive and pointless to tune as you can get the same power from 16v's with much less effort.
I think what i am aiming to do is prove some people wrong that you can in fact tune an 8v fairly easily. In theory the only reason why it will cost me a fair bit to build my engine is that I'm fitting forged pistons and h-section rods so that the bottom end id built for the NOS That and whilst the bottom end is apart i may as well get the crank/flywheel lightened/balanced and see how free revving i can get the little beast

It wont, but you dont have to be a queer to drive it.
