SLOPPY IDLE ON MK 4 GOLF 1.6 (1998). ANY IDEAS?

the idle on my mk4 golf bounces between 800 and a 1000rpm. you can feel it pulsing through the car and hear it dipping when you listen to the engine. one minute it will be sitting fine at 1,000 then its just dips off to around 800 then bounces straight back between the 2??? all help would be much appreciated...any ideas

been serviced at all lately?

could be the air mass sensor. try unplugging it and if it runs fine after that it's the sensor. word of warning dont run too long without it plugged in because it rapes your mpg

Hi Mate, Had the same problem with AZU engine Bora. Take off the throttle body and clean it out with brake cleaner.
