| i didnt think that any of the pressed plates where legal (not sure about older cars - aircooled etc), that said (touch wood) i have had them on my corrado for well over a year now and on my previous mk2 for around 3years before and only had my wrists slapped once I like them, i reckon they look loads better than the normal plastic jobbies, although prefer just the standard plain design on pressed metal as think the whole "d" badge with all the taxation stickers etc has been done a bit much and is asking for trouble from the police. | |

| I bought my German plates from Europl8 - they had a stand at BigBang, but they have a shop on e-bay and a website too ( www.europl8.co.uk).They are reflective too. Mine are technically illegal on two points - the "D" logo and the dash in the middle of the plate - if you have a "GB" and no dash then they're totally fine. I also have the seals on my plates, as they looked bare without them... ordered them on a Sunday night from the e-bay shop and got them first thing Tuesday morning. Quality service. (Touches wood several times before typing this next bit) Not been tugged over for the plates yet... if I do, my excuse will be "oh my god, I'm SO sorry. I didn't realise my showplates were still on, I went to a show last weekend and clean forgot to put the normal ones back on... I have them at home and I will do them as soon as I get there"... hoping that will just get me a slapped wrist and a telling off... This is my front plate: And the seals (Wolfsburg Town): | |

| me and some mates had a chat with a traffic policeman about this, and it seems this is a bit of a grey area, apparantly: .you can run pressed plates (white at the front, yellow at back) .need to change the 'D' for a GB, or cover it up. .cant have the two stickers in the middle of the plates .needs to be in corect font, which i think most of them are. apart from those points i think you can run german plates! (might as well not bother if your gona do all of the above though, will look just like a normal one) i think this is something the police are realy clamping down on plates (fonts, spacing, etc) as this is easy money for them. | |

Like car theft? If your car gets stolen, police cameras on motorway fly overs, and in their cars cannot pic up your plate(ANPR? cameras) so if your car gets nicked they cant trace it through cameras like that. Causes problems with DVLA cameras apparently, also if you have the D band you can avoid tolls as they think your a tourist. Still doesnt stop me running german plates just wanted to let you know they dont just do it for a bit of easy revenue. Had to deal with a few really sound coppers lately so i dont really "cop bash" with the whole "dont they have something better to do" crap anymore. End of the day laws are there if you break them they are gonna be on your case.

How many years now have cops been "clamping down" on illegal plates... still see hundreds of them every day.. The whole claping down thing has been doing circles for bloody years.

| tiz i completely understand what your sayin about car theft but by now there cameras should be able to pick up any number plate small big how ever different they are we all pay enough for our cars!!!! some coppers just like to pick on people and yeah there is some decent coppers about but i think aslong as we pay road tax + insurance we should be able to have our cars how we want them. thats what i would do if had to make the rules up | |

yeah that was the lecture i got, he seemed to know a bit about cars and said about it being a rare car in a rare colour and how their camera's would not pick it up if it was stolen, fair play to him he was a sound bloke and had a bit of a laugh and let me off as i was on private land (macdonalds drive through! ), even told me which way he would be going when he left as i asked in case he waited up the road! I have been followed loads of times by normal panda cars and they have never bothered me, its only when i see a traffic car that i get a little worried. On the whole, they are illegal so if i do get a fine im not gonna moan about it. Although they are illegal, i think most police seem sound and dont choose to act on it and when they do is probably more due to being an excuse to stop you and look for more serious defects etc.
