| Seriously? so your saying il have EXACTLY the same traction if i put space savers on and then put some 8J rims and tyres on? | |

| i'm not sure if anyones noticed but we're talking about a fairly standard Golf VR6....
i dont think there's much need for a technical maths lesson on mass x pressure x contact area x couldnt care less. (i know its single wheel load divided by tyre pressure but that sounded funnier)
Dan i very much doubt you'll notice a difference in handling or traction with 10 or 20mm thinner tyres and you definitely wont have to slow down for any corners buddy, if thats all thats stopping you putting the wheels on then i say stop being a girl, stretch some tyres on those lovely wheels and lower it.

| Sorry Tom but I'm can't believe that. You hit us with some mind blowing scientific jargon but I don't believe a car with 195's all round will have the same grip as a car with 330's all round. Your scientific analogy is lovely and all but it doesn't seem to be taking friction x contact area into account.
You said:
so the 195mm tyre would have a contact patch of 195 x 20mm
the 330mm tyre would have a contact patch of 330 x 84.6mm
Which would make the area of road contact: 195 tyre = 3,900mm 330 tyre = 27,918mm
How would something with almost 8.5x road contact have the same amount of friction?

How would something with almost 8.5x road contact have the same amount of friction? It wont, all i said is it will have the same amount of tyre on the road. and it should read 8.46mm not 84.6mm thats my poor typing. But surely if it had the same rubber compound with the same amount of pressure in the tyres the vertical axis of contact would be the same, the only thing that would change would be the horizontal axis which would be getting large thus making a larger area and more friction?

| technically tom is right, but because he didnt work it out and just used examples it contradicts itself.
if in theory the contact area for the 195 is 195 x 20 then the 330 would be something like 330 x 11.9
because there is more tyre width on the road the weight of the car doesnt compress the tyre as much as the 195 so less tyre is on the road than you'd think (assuming the tyre pressures are identical and the weight of the vehicle hasnt changed)

ahh the weight of the vehicle effecting the side walls! forgot about that one

| The whole point of these wheels is that they were gonna be cheap.
At this rate with tyre changes or machining them is turning into alot of mulla.

| I actually like the way it looks. The second picture looks pretty damn nice IMO.
Drop it down about a couple of more inches and take that second picture again.
I'm a fan of something different. Hence being part of a dub-club and owning a BMW.
