| Hey guys...my Golf keeps making this whining/whistling noise whilst being driven or on idle...but not as bad on idle...it's doing my head in and i have no idea what it is??? Helpppppppppp!!!! | |

| i got told that my car doesn't have a fan belt as the fan is driven by an electric motor...whaaaaaaaa??? So what the hell is this annoying bloody noise...as it only really happens when driving...it stops when you dip the clutch | |

| water pump belt/pas belt, expansion bottle too high a pressure any of those pop round I'm only in littleport I can prob diagnose it for you and poss fix. Guy 07791001385 | |

| Whats he charging you for doing the belt ? I charge £35 labour on mk2 and mk3's thats for 8 and 16v's alike. You can either supply the belt yourself or I can supply. Just in case others need it doing. | |

That may be the problem as the belt could have relaxed and is now squeeling because of this. | |

might as well change the clutch while your there
incase you havent caught my drift the box has to come off so be sure its that before you get involved with it.
Take the alt belt off and run the car, obviously not for hours cause you have no water pump with that off but if the noise stops then it will be the alt bearing but it sounds like the clutch release bearing to me. | |

| Right...much appreciated for the info guys...Tiz i'm not stupid i just don't have as much knowledge as you!!! Just checked and the car had a new clutch fitted January this year...so i am hoping it will be that alternator bearing...how much am i looking at for one of these?? | |

| tbh dude it sounds more like the release bearing, newer clutchs put more stress on an old bearing | |
