| Got a 1959 Beetle rolling shell coming, its REALLY solid, its a very early and pretty rare 59 with the semaphores. All i need for it is an engine, wiring loom, wings, fuel tank and interior bits. sooo do i cut the front and back off and chop the roof to make it into a volksrod....
Or do i fully restore it and make it totally mint underneath with a fully detailed engine, good interior etc... Pretty original just tatty.
I do fancy a rod but i think it might be sacralidge to cut up such a solid early example?

| it wont be "ratted" mate its patina, its been sitting about for a long time and i will be getting it on the road. It wont be restored cause i dont have the money to go round finding all original 59 parts, it will slowly have original parts bought and fitted as my mate aquires them though.
Also bare in mind it wont be your usual "rat" it will be a proper rat with detailed underneath and a detailed engine.

P.s. with my skills and qualifications i think i would get something better than a paper round mate....foooookin comedian.

| over reaction?? think he was simply trying to state that restored classics are his thing.saying 'do it right' isnt tellin you how do do your car,its just an expression, same as 'slam it too the floor' a phrase i (and loadsa others) use far too much. and after all you did set this thread up asking for opinions?? i love a bit of variety, i adore proper patina 'ratty bugs' but love restored bugs. i like the idea of restoring it from the floor up and stopping at the floor lol, one of my fav bugs 'the bitch' is done the same way. just please dont rat rod it, its a massive waste, spec if its solid, if you want a rat rod, ive got a pre 67ed 72 down my dads garage thats a right off and probably a perfect candidate, im thinking of the idea myself. thanks GT i love my bug too, but its a pile of sh1te lol, its going porsche sepia brown soon hopefully!!. 1500 single ports for the win!! mines great, nice and nippy.
my mate lees got a split bug, been off the road for years resoring/finding the bits for it, but in my opinion, its gonna be one hell of a car when it does get finished!! if i had another bug, id go down this route,if you have the space and take some time doing it, money doesnt really matter cos its such a spread out process:D

| My opinion! Its a rare car right, needs to be restored properly at whatever cost and time. That, you dont have at the mo tom! Rat look is'nt doing anything for me these days as its just for peeps who really cant be ar5ed in doing it right, all just to grab some attention!, might please peeps in the scene!! but not the normal public who'll think 'how the fook is that road legal' lol. Tom, you can barely afford to stick legal tread on ya wheels lol so IMO your best to sell on the beetle and get yaself an affordable daily that just needs a tidy up. Bout time you had something other than a RAT dont ya think!!? | |

Bout time you had something other than a RAT dont ya think!!? Who said i dont have the money lee? I didnt put new tyres on my golf cause i didnt want to spend any money on it, do you think it would be the way it was if it was a solid golf? I would have spent loads of money on it and it would have been sweet. It doesnt HAVE to be restored properly right now, ive already worked everything out with ben and im gonna get the correct parts over time, for now i will complete the welding on it and paint it up probably depending on how far i go on the underneath resto to if i have enough money left afterwards. And im never one for pleasing the public, since you have known me you know i love to make a statement and get noticed more than the average person you know thats just the way i am and will probably never change. Alsoooooo naaaaah man im RAT till i die, even when everybody is done with hoodride saying its crap etc i will still be rolling around in my rat... NO sensible dailys for me either. Its all about the stupidly low 59 for a daily P.s. Also knowing me like you do....you can almost guarantee i will be like NAAAAH im gonna build this 59 as my daily then go off in the opposite direction and buy something as new as i can. LOL.. Im probably the most undecisive/unsettled person on here lol.
