i have a noticable amount of white smoke being produced from the back of my car. not from the exhaust. the gearbox just died and is being changed in the next couple of days. could it have been that or is it an oil leak tht is hitting something hot? had oil resadue all over the back of the car aswell that had accumalated over a couple of days.

sounds like oil or a substance is burning on your exhaust mate. did your gearbox go bang?

didnt go bang, made a hell of alot of grinding noise and not much movement. got momentum up in 1st and managed to gently persuade it to g60_nick's garage (royston auto care) to have a replacement fitted from the tornado red 86 gti im breaking atm. it dont do it now, i think it was the gearbox getting hot and throwing all that smoke out.
