Standard mk3 Gti

Decided i wanted a nicer car to drive every day than my usual crap. So found this little gem on autotrader, well below average mileage, mint bodywork, very very well looked after car mint interior no damage or wear etc. The only and i mean only problem with the car was a tyre that could do with changing which i had done today. Got the car from a very nice chap who competes in concours competitions with a polo so looks after his cars very well and this one was no exception. All electrics, ice cold aircon etc.

I know i know its only an 8v blah blah blah but its plenty quick enough for daily duties while i build something a bit special to promote my new business.

trying really hard to leave it alone and standard but im not sure how long its going to last. Put my ipod head unit, jbl gto speakers and sub in the boot. Thankfully with a slight bit of modification i got the JBLs to fit behind the standard grills so it looks factory original.

looks good tiz, i can see it getting lower at least

with all the bloody on the floor cars ive driven it makes a really really nice change to drive a standard height and ride car its like a magic carpet compared to everything else i have driven haha

looks lovely tiz - i'd leave it as it is if I were you. if i had the car i'd probably go for a standard vento front using the early grill and put a beamer rear wiper arm with a set of euro wipers all round, but as for coilovers etc it's just going to cause problems for a mint car imo

i think it would look better with lexus rear lights, 17's, a big dragon on the doors and maybe a big jap can.

just my thoughts though

(in other words, i like it, i think it's pretty. also, all the best cars are "R" reg)

I really wanna lose the arch trims though and get some CL side stripes as i dont really like the plastic spats on these, judging by the minty freshness of the car i cant see there being any rust issues under the trims.

If it really is as nice as you say, and the pics suggest your right. I would leave it completely standard. Future Concours??

indeed they sure are. TBH i was always on the mk3s suck bandwagon etc and that mk2s are so much better etc. I personally find this a better drive than any mk2 gti i have driven, maybe it doesnt accelerate as well or stick to a corner quite as well but its not as slow and spongy as everybody makes out they are. On the whole its much much nicer to drive wether your are driving slow through town or pressing on round the twisties... Still i wish it was a VR cause i really miss that sound haha.

Tom, it'll need paintwork if you remove the arch trims due to the fixings showing. They not like mk1 and 2 arches hence why those going for a smooth clean look go for the later mk3 which does'nt have them.

ah damn :(. Ah well it will be staying totally totally original then haha

this is one of the latest being a 97 all 8vs and 16s had trims only the late VRs got them off :(

would have made a base for a nice car being non sunroof etc but i dont really want to start modding it if i cant get the trims off easily cause i cant get the look i want.

sweet mk3 m8,mk3s are sweet i love em they look new but sensebley no over the top styleing a nice subtle shape:D
