| As your engine is not carbed and is single point injection, try and source a single point injector and throttle body from a 1.6/1.8 and simply bolt it on. Will give more air flow and fueling. Or spend some money on dewedging the throttle body. Its basically porting a small part of it. | |

pfff pasengers are for sensible cars! lol ive only got front seats in mine. stripping it has made the a big difference. its not just the acceleration thats better, its the braking and handling thats improved as well (less weight means you can change direction quicker due to less inertia or somethin...).

| my little mk3 1.4 is painfully slow to m8, tryed an induction kit, made sod all differance got a decat pipe but its now quit noisy and pops and bangs when slowin down! i have the injection system off a 1.6 but have never fitted it!
i was offed a 1.8 engin with all the loom drive shafts, the lot! fella i know put a vr in his mk3 so the old engin is up for £100, its an stright swap. a bargain for 100! i dint get it as i have a new car in sight, gana go old skol with a mk2 1.8 hopfully.

| yer only real difference would be to do an engine conversion, but even the 1.8 single point engine only has 90bhp. and you would need different engine mounts etc, as the 1400 uses the same block as a mk2 1300 and the 1800 usues the same block as the 1.6 and 1.8 mk2 golf engines, so would be alot of work. and for not alot of power, do an abf or a VR conversion. | |

or buy a different car! with better brakes and suspension etc as well as a bigger engine i used to have a 1.4 mk3 about 5 years ago and mine was quite nippy in my opinion and it would do bout 100....what more do you need at the age of 17/18

| Yeah its true what they say, dont build what you can buy. i assume insurance is an insure at ur age for bigger engines so guess thats out the qeustion, so all you can do really is what ppl have mentioned above, or just save ya money and put up with it for year or so and the buy sumfin more powerfull when you can insure it. | |

| we have both sent quit a bit on our cars tho, is all show and no go, wish i just lowered it on g60s, and left it alone, saved my money and go something bigger and betta when the insurance had droped! mine has full lether, smooth bumpers, coilovers, have a garage full of wheels that i have got for it. and a rather embarassing exhurst had it a year now cost me 1800 to insure for the year. this year with a years no claims i can insure a mk2 gti fire and theft for 1780, i know what i will doing!! | |
