| Right my dads bin trying to fix this running problem with my golf (mk1 gti 8v) but had no luck and my bill has got to the point where its gonna get expensive. Basically, it revs fine untill it gets to about 3.5 RPM then holds back like fook and splutters and doesnt go, sounds like a fuelling issue. It will go through it when you rev very slowly through 1st 2nd and 3rd, but it wont get through it in 4th and 5th so only does 70 flat out. it also doesn't over heat. Its foooookin me off now as i thaught it would be a simple problem to fix but has been a right barsteward. Its had cambelt, plugs, leads, timing done, filters, relay and 5th injector. a few people have said it could be the fuel pump. But have also said they usually make a noise as they go wrong. Help would be greatly appreciated. Please none of the usual car forum replies 'stick a 1.8T lump in it' and what not. Ive run out of paitience as it is | |

Check your fuel filler neck - above the neck is a really bad water/sludge trap so the filler neck tends to rust through and leave crap in your tank, the most common cause of the above. Can't really suggest anything else as mine's carbed but there's tonnes of info on the MK1OC, try doing the odd search on there maybe? Mat | |

| sounds like vacuum leak, check the little pipes that are connected to the inlet manifold. you'll see a valve type peice with skinny pipes attached, 1 probs going through the bulkhead to your mfa clocks. You should be able to here the fuel pump when working nice. They go quiet when theres no fuel in it which could be a cause of a rotten fuel filler neck or plain old simple sh1t in the tank. | |

| The fuel pump and lines became knackered for some reason bud so double check that the fuel filler neck is clean and rust free. Rusty filler neck is a well known problem with mk1 cars | |
