| From your vague description it sounds like your starter motor solenoid is staying engaged and sticking. Loads of possibilities but the most common would be the solenoid itself (renew starter motor) Worst case scenario would be wiring problem (something causing start 12v feed short to power) or dodgy ignition switch. There are two terminals on starter; big main one (live 12v all the time), and small one (12v only when ignition is turned to 'start' position). Check these are all ok and clean with no damage to wires. Suspect dodgy starter tho tbh. Did one on my old mk2 with same symptoms. | |

| this is the second starter ,the small crimp fit connector can only fit in one place ,and there is a black and red wire which one is at the top as you look down into the engine bay | |

Solonoid or wiring ? or return spring on the ignition ?
