you sound suprised...??.......most places will fail you for having no ARB. With the amount of modded/lowered cars on the road it's the first thing they look for. I got done for no side repeaters

| I wont let them do it . And I've spoken to loads of people including mechanics and they've said they can't fail you at all for no arb. They want £242 for the standard arb I cut out :/ ha | |

| yes they can. If a car came out the factory with an ARB and you present it for test without one it is a fail. | |

Not so Tiz iirc. (I am always happy to be corrected on this) I've had at least three 205's in for test with no front arb and not a single word about it.

| if you removed all fixings etc basically make it look like there shouldnt be an ARB fitted it will pass. But removing one fitted results in a fail. I had a huuuuge argument with a garage about it on the mrs fiesta.
"DEFENDER ANTI-ROLL BARS
I was wondering whether you could help with the following, or put me in touch with someone who can give advice? Some Land Rover Defender drivers remove or disconnect their rear anti-roll bars to help improve rear wheel articulation (indeed, a lot of Defenders don't have them fitted). But we've heard from a reader that the MOT rules are due to change and this would result in a failure. Is this correct? John Pearson, Editor-in-Chief, Land Rover Owner International magazine.
Removing an anti-roll bar which was originally fitted to the vehicle is now a reason for rejection (ie a failure) in the MOT (at 19/10/10) – MOTT."

Well if there are fixings there then its pretty easy to tell it came out of the factory with one on. To be honest what car these days doesnt have an arb?

| well ive spoken to a few people and theyve said if somethings not on the car (in this case ARB) they cant fail you. if you tampered with it or modified the orginal arb then yes they can fail! and they MOT tester said i 'HAVE TO' put the orginal arb back on for it to pass! VW quoted me £242 for orginal arb | |

| to be honest apart from the 4x4 application quotes above i can't see any reason for removing an ARB, losing stability when modifying the drop links takes about 10 minutes | |

| It's not hard to understand why I removed the stupid mk4 arb! Because I was low, and now need notch my chassis because I'm still low and going lower! If I can get an arb to work then I'll get one. I've even seen whiteline arbs rubbing from pictures on ukmkivs | |

| My anti roll bar was removed by my MoT tester. It was his suggestion.
In my opinion, main dealers are struggling to make ends meet at the moment and they will try to grab all the money they can.

| Right,
I've consultaed the mot book on this arb issue and if it was fitted from factory then it's a fail. Unless there are no mounting points for it in the subframe or the arms then it should be there, if you modify the subframe and lower arms then and only then it may pass as the rules also say that if there is any reason for doubt then it's a pass, but it's debateable and at the testers decression.
They brought this arb rule in to stop people taking them off when they have arb mount issues, if you remove it from the rear then strangely it doesn't matter as they make them with and without.
Personally I cant see why it needs to be there, citroen 2CV's clearly dont have them, If you have spent thousands on a cars suspension and the set up decrees no arb then whats the issue ?
VOSA seem to have their eyes closed here and not thought it through quite properly (imo)
The only mistake Jamie made was to go to the main dealer as they would spot what was right and wrong straight away and they like to have your pants down (you should have seen the qoute for his mot repair, it was outrageous)
Every day's a school day boys and girls.

| the trouble is no arb will solve my problem, so i would have to go back to standard height with an arb. I was checking UK-MKivs and theve said WHITELINE dont sell the arb that stops this issue, they brang a new style out this year and it rubbs; people have quoted its worse then an orignal VW arb. To put a new arb in to solve this bullshit MOT crap, i need old style whiteline arb.
Anyway, work carried out by myself so far, re-newed inner CV boot, and done both Bal joints and new side repeaters. all thats left its abs and a headlight bulb!
Still dont have a clue on ABS issue though :

| your abs issue is the wiring on the rear drivers side , from the sensor to under the seat, go get one from a breaker or get an auto electrician to diagnose it. | |
