| Hi, sorry if this has been covered time and time again, but in the search i can only find bits of info that cover some parts of my questions.
I am searching for a mk3 gti 8v for a conversion, i understand that from 95 they had an immobiliser, but this dont bother me too much. but to do the engine conversion i have a lot to do, Can anyone tell me if the mk3 gear selector fits the mk2 or do i need to source a mk2 or raddo one. Also the exhaust, can i used the mk3 one or just the manifold etc, will the mk3 pumps fit my tank or do i need to swap the whole tank? i will use the entire wiring and fusebox from the mk3 but what problems will i have when wiring into my lights and dash switches ( i plan to use the mk3 clocks) Radiator do i need a mk2 8v one and what hoses? can i use the mk3 fan and shroud. what engine mounts do i need to use, my 1.3 are new or should i use the mk3? Last but not least i want to fit the mk3 PS rack but can i fit my manual track rods as not going widetrack. Sorry bout the questions but want to get the car and all bit i need and nail the conversion in one go, the reason i want to use as many mk3 parts as poss is because once i have brought the donor car i will have the bits so dont want to buy more bits than i can get by with
just to add i have the gti rear beam and 259 set up with 22 master. and have lowered my golf, but i need to uprate my shocks, i have waited untill i get the donor as i plan to use the gti shocks but should i get aftermarket uprated?

| The short answer is if you are getting a donor car then yes everything transfers over but I think you may need a mk2 gti fuel tank. Take the fuse box from the mk3 as it all transfers over and all the old light looms plug in. If you have a donor from 95 on yes the immobiliser will be an issue, you will need the original transponder/ecu/immobiliser box and transfer them across with the dash loom and it all plugs in. It is not possible to defeat the immobiliser on this system. | |

| I meant to say... Take the engine out by dropping the subframe, take the steering the whole shabang and just bolt it back up, take the rear beam too and you will wide track your car in one swift move, move the shocks everything goes straight over. Make sure you buy a running car oh and btw the gearbox goes too. Its a very easy swap. | |

| Thanks, thats brill help.
Does any one know if the rest of the exhaust will fit, just in case its in good nick on donor car.
how much will wide track push my wheels out, i want to be sure that i wont have wheel - arch trouble with my current wheels. and want to stay 4 stud, is this possible on widetrack, if not then how do i transfer the PS rack and keep it narrow track.
So my ce1 light loom fits into the ce2 fusebox?
one more thing, i want to use mk3 clocks but mk2 dash so what loom do i use for dash swtches, is dash and clock loom seperate?

| I believe the wide track to be 15 or 20mm wider but to be honest I cant remember for sure. If you have standard offset wheels then youll have no clearance isues as long as they are not wide as hell. You can use the flanges from a mk2 four stud to keep your original wheels. fling on the rear brakes from a mk2 (they graft straight on) and use mk2 discs and your in all round. As for narrowing the mk3 pas thats not something I've ever encountered, in that situation use a mk2 rack with mk2 lower arms, the rear will still be wider if you fit a mk3 one though. Correct me if I'm wrong anyone. | |

| Thanks again,
I like the idea of wide track now, so gonna go for it. I assume i use the mk2 gti handbrake cables on the mk3 rear axel. With the steering ill use the mk2 column, and mk2 gaiter, but the mk3 uj and rack? I can use the mk3 manifold and downpipe/or decat downpipe but mk2 mid/back sections?,
I have read that mk2 rear discs fit the mk3 axel (to go to 4 stud) but with the front, i can use my 1.3 hub flanges on mk3 carriers and drive shafts? but witch discs so i can use mk3 calipers and 4 stud?
Sorry for more questions but i want to make sure i have everything before the conversion so i dont get part through and realise i have something missing. i am going to nail the conversion between a friday afternoon and be finished by sunday night!!!
So apart from a mk3 donor i need, mk2 GTI rad +(FAN AND PIPES? or use mk3 parts on mk2 rad) Mk2 GTI mid and rear exhaust sections. MK2 GTI rear discs Mk2 front discs (G60?) MK2 gti handbrake cables MK2 PS belows gaiter

| It's all Pretty much as you described above, yes to g60 discs, check your flanges fit the splines on the driveshafts though as I've had it where they dont. I had real trouble finding a pas steering knuckle and dont go to vw as theyre £175 a pop. The pas one had a larger hole one end than the other. mk3 ones just dont fit. I'm pretty much about to do what you're doing but with a vr engine straight out of my highline, and into my 1.3cl. I've absolutely loads of bits spare so if you run short or break sommet let me know and I'll help if I can. | |

| sweet thanks alot,
I will try and get all of the bits together and while the subframe and rear beam are lying on my drive off the mk3 ill service the engine, box and fit new bushes etc. and also transfer the new hubs and breaks etc. hopefully then (apart from the wiring it will be a bolt up job,
Thanks your your helps, i think i may be in touch, if i get it done before you maybe i can help you out too.
