| Ok, so I went to have a look at some Diesel motors today as my 318 might be gone in the next week. One that stuck out from the rest was a 51 plate Black B5.5 Passat TDI (the 130bhp Sport).
Bodywork was in amazing condition, as was interior. Took it for a drive and it seemed comfortable and pulled really well! Nice, quick and comfortable for such a large car.
Ok, so the main bit. It's had a service 5-6K miles ago, and the cambelt and water pump replaced sub-1k miles ago. Thing is, the car has done 149K. Its got about 2 months tax and MOT on it and he's got it for sale around £2850. I managed to haggle £200 off it due to needing an MOT soon, but i'm still wondering about the mileage.
Will this car be good for another 50k miles? 149K mileage seems a lot to me, but other cars in the range are around £3k for one with 120k miles. Is it worth it really? Looking to keep it for the next year and a half (unless circumstances change).
Any advice on B5.5's or TDI engines in general would be great!

| I had a 110 tdi Audi A4 on 230,000 miles and i had it chipped to 130 never had any problems with it at all and the owner after me didnt either.
In other unrelated diesel high milers i had a 255,000 mile mondeo TD that i did another 5k in and again no problems apart from needing a new set of glow plugs.

| Sounds like you're good to go, as everyones said the mileage isnt going to be an issue.
As for price, you'll notice literally every PD130 has kept its price well - probably not a lot you can do to bring it down if you ask me.
Any pics? | |

| Thanks to everyone for the advice. From what I've heard from various people, it sounds like a good buy. Rang the bloke again an hour ago as it's only got 2 months Tax and MOT (small time dealership place trying to be tight). Tried to haggle an MOT out of it too, but it's gonna cost me an extra £40 on top. Might as well pay them for an MOT too if they'll do any necessary work included in the price. - Ashley wrote:

Any pics? Yeah too true. All B5.5 cars tend to hold their value extremely well. Especially the 130 engines. I think it's because Taxi firms/rental companies will snap them up and continue to use them if they can hold that extra mileage. But yeah, here's a couple of pictures from the advert.. Should be dropping a deposit round to him either tonight or tomorrow. 1 insurance group cheaper than the 318iS, and much more MPG. Plus the remap-ability! Fingers crossed!

but it does look good in the pics mate Yeah, it is a fair bit of mileage I agree, but my rule is... It's got to be Black or Silver It's got to be a PD 130 It's got to be 01 or newer It's got to be under 3K The interior must be black (not grey....yuck). This one fits all the criteria, and is only just down the road. So it means that I don't have pointless days/evenings driving around the country looking for another. It's also really tidy. A couple of very feint mark's on the rear where the bumper meets the boot that look like they'll come out easily with some T-Cut. All other ones i've seen haven't been that great condition, didn't meet everything I wanted, and were higher priced (plus they were all over the 100k mile marker anyways). If I find anything better before I put the deposit down tomorrow evening, then it'll be surprising to say the least!

Deposit down tonight, and they're taking it for a full MOT tomorrow. When the weekend comes i'll be saying bye bye to petrol, and hello to the dirty D. Hopefully I won't regret it... How many Passat's are on here? Mooragerx7, Doobie, MarkGTX, Nelds, Maizetina... anymore? I'd be up for some photo's, but it'll be rocking the 4x4 look for quite a while...

| That looks perfect - exactly the kind of thing I'd go for if I were in your financial situation. Hopefully in a couple of years I can go for that or a bora with the same engine.. You wont regret doing for the dirty stuff either, it's the best | |
