new project! ratty retro more door mk1 (loads of new pics!)

quite as im picking up a new project tomorrow!

Its a 1.5 mk1 golf GX with only about 70k on the clock! This is pretty much what it looks like at the moment (minus the bike!) although these pics where taken about 2 years ago:







Its been off the road for a couple of years so really no idea how much work it needs but i got offered it at a price that was too good to refuse and accepted without even going too see it! Apparently it still starts, drives and stops ok so fingers crossed!

Got a few plans of things i would like to change/do to it but gotta get it home first and see how much work its likely to need for an mot!

Insured it tonight....£84 for the whole year fully comp with all mods declared (staff discount is great!).

looks good damn staff discount for insurance

that was on a classic policy, 2nd vehicle limited to just 1000 miles so would not have been much more even without discount!

Looks nice Martin, are you keeping the whole "rat look" going or are you going to clean it up a bit?

not sure yet, not a huge fan of forced rat look/loads of tat stuck on etc but will see how it goes and what condition the bodywork is in.

Quite fancy a change of wheels to something smaller & wider - i know ATS classics are already common on mk1's but think they suit them so well!

Alternitively i am one short of a full spare set of G60 steels....

well its home! now have a mk1, mk2 and mk3 on the drive....half way to a full set

been off the road for approx 3yrs and we put a battery on and it fired straight up! Still drives really well too!

cant wait to take kids to school and see the look on the other mums faces in there mercs and rangerovers etc .... they wont understand at all will they!

that looks fantastic, looks like all it needs is the stickers removing and dropping over a set of nice wheels.

i love the look of 'used' Mk1's, especially more doors!

cheers mate, its already pretty low on shocks and springs but could go lower...unfortunatly there are more pressing issues for the mk1 and need to get coilies for the mk2 before i think about some for this!

Started getting rid of some of the stickers etc today as did not like "lower than a snakes boll**ks" etc anyway, let alone with the kids reading them!

at the moment its very slow but am in the process of smoothing out (well removing wiper and washer jet) tailgate and then off to a friend to spray for me

also if you need any cheap wheels to run around on i got a couple sets lol

just been through a load of the old paper work, i think the colour is called "Regatta Blue"?

right finally got some of my own pics uploaded, after a good wash too remove 3 yrs worth of dirt and moss (despite some temptation to leave it lol):














Andy wanted the bike back but snapped the key in the D lock trying to get it off, had to take the roof rack to bits to get it off:


think i prefer the interior without the seat covers:


some of the bad bits:

inner wings are shot on both sides but repair panels are pretty cheap


couple of holes in the spare wheel well


hole by the rear suspension turret


passenger wing is rotton



so started strripping it down to get a better look at what im dealing with:

erm...yeah, this is held together with gaffer tape















im one short of a full spare set of G60 steels....perhaps an alternative to the p-splots...

yeah it can be "our" car, the mk2 is still my fave tho!

Cant wait to see this just cleaned up and de-stickered etc

If i come by some upgraded coilovers for mine, i'll be selling the hottuning things on it so i'll let ya know

Good to see child labour hasnt been abolished quite yet.

Martin my mate owns GPC and has got a few patern wings etc for the mk1 they are made in germany and fit like vag parts not the like the german and sweedish ones which you have to bend and cut to fit..He was only saying the other day that volkswagen are now making mk2 parts obsolete...
