Got her home a few weeks ago. Since then just been stripping out while getting a plan together of sorts for where this is going to go. Just the enigine, running gear, suspension and pedla box left to take out. Going to weld up a rolling swivel jig to enable me to get her naked and patch her up once all of the nasty mastic is off.

The basic plan at the moment is to:

wheel well out/as much weight off as poss
Fit a cage.
Large block preferably on carbs, eventually laughing gas too. excited
plexiglass
just 2 seater
fibreglass bonnet and boot

Going to go for about 750KG (inc me) she what it can do. Going for 13s

RM2WAS, Iam going to try and compete in VWDRC, well that is the goal anyway

I am aware that I need a "stamped" welded cage. Have started looking into it already! I know of a chap who does cages for a living and build drag cars, might have him do it when he does my bro's

If you want a lightweight race car why fill all the swagelines full of heavy fibreglass and filler?

Good lad, I already race in the vwdrc and it looks like we live in the same place. So if you want any help or pointers it's not far for me to come and have a look/lend a hand. Thanks for the offer pal. What seats are they? What colour and how much you looking? Pm me if you want. Still early days for that sort of thing though and space is premium but any bargains will always be considered! Thumbs up

Wow that would be great. If you are not up to anything any evening and want to come and laugh at headless chicken efforts so far, feel free. I will PM you my numbers if you like... Question

What I have said to people is that it will probably take about two years. The rate I am going I just don't know, I don't get out to it everyday what with work and the kids. I don't have any previous build experience so nothing to gauge against. Probably won't be next season but hopefully get it down to the POD at some point for RWYB. For my first build it is certainly a challenge, any help or advice would be mega appreciated!

I have now got the engine out. I still can't ofind the ehgine code mark, it obviously doesn't have one. The only bits left on the shell now are the rear runnign gear, fuel lines and tank and the sterring column/rack including pedal box. Now the real messy stuff can start...

That's fair enough, just wondering if it was something that had been done by anyone, and if it was worth doing.

you make me sick. "smooth" and "beetle" do not go, unless you are smoothing the floor pan and beam with the road

started de-tarring the inner floor. My hands are very sore ATM. What is the best way.

a: Heatgun and scraper
b: Wire brush bit on drill/grinder.

It's a messy task either way!

Heat gun and scraper by far the easiest dude Smile

You will be impressed with the weight of tar material that you scrape up!
