What are peoples opinions on the V6 4Motion golf as i am considering trading the 1.4 in when i can find a descent one localish for sale.

Originally was looking for a mk4 R32 but just seem overpriced when you can get a 2.8 V6 for around half the price of an R32.

I half never driven or even been in one of these before and wondered if anybody had any past experience of what these are like.

4mo would be the only mk4 id have, fit the R32 front subframe with quicker rack and your winning.

These engine respond nicely to a remap, my mate pauls one was making just shy of 240 and pulled like a trojan on speed.

It was a little lack lustre before the map, he got better economy after too.

The 4wd system can be a hassle on these if they haven't had their oil and filter changed at the correct times.
They also like to screw sensors in the transfer box too.
It is possible, as no more than 15% of the power goes to the rear wheels even under extreme conditions, to have the box ecu remapped to push up to 50% of the power to the back but its a costly £500, worth it though.

Plus that glorious sound of the vr engine but with variable inlet tract technology = smooth power and lots of fun.

i'd defo go for a V6 4mo over a 1.8t anyday, why pay the same for a slower, smaller engined and lower spec'd car? those 4mo's seem to be fully loaded (well the one's ive seen anyway) plus 4 cylinders vs 6 - no brainer surely...

I was going to have a 4mo before the audi but then the audi came up cheap (cheapest in the country on autotrader at the time Mk4 golf V6 4Motion Icon_lol ) so had that instead.

Only thing with the 4mo's is the wood effect in them, im not too keen on that but can easily be swapped for other trim.

Very good cars over all though and as said sound awesome.

went to look at one in peterborough today (1 and 1/2 hour drive either way for me) and it was s**t the rear quarter was all cracked and rusty, and bodywork in general was absolutely rubbish looks like someone had rubbed sandpaper all over it as it so many deep swirls and scratches.

don't let one bad car put you off mate. i travelled down to brockenhurst in the new forest to get my Bora 4motion. they are quite rare as VW imported less than 150. its one of the reasons why i bought mine but the main reason was the effortless torque and V6 soundtrack!

im just holding out until a decent one within 100 miles comes up as i don't want to keep driving around the country. There doen't seem to be a massive amount of 3dr 4motion golfs about either (well not for sale anyway).

just idea as was going to get either v6 4motion or 2.0 turbo etc .

There is an R32 engine and gearbox all for sale on edition 38 atm for a reasonable price and don't think the 4motion engine come up very often so will be harder to find.

And those of you that don't know me I ended buying an R32 as one came up at my local vw dealer 3 miles away with only one owner and clearly looked after etc...
