im looking at a 1984 1.3cl golf for £1000

basically...

vw golf mk2 1.3 cl mars red 42000 miles

new clutch
recenct service
new rear wheel bearings
new off side drive shaft
new full exhaust system
new head gasket set
new cambelt
new startor motor
new alternator
coilovers
porsche electric leather seats
rear strut brace
de-badged grill
Chrystal headlights
rear smoked lights
single wiper conversion
taxed until 09
m.o.t until 09
only rust on the car is on the battery tray

the car runs sweat for its age, well maintained and cheap to insure, also the car is a realhead turner.

the wheels that will come with the car are the diamond cut vauxhall wheels with porsche centre caps.

this is what the car has, wat should i be looking out for in terms of rust spots, looks really mint

now dont anyone on here go stealing it off me lol

You could sell all the toys off it on flee bay and get yourself a free car.

Sounds a good price to me

Check Arches front and rear in and out especially if the tray has gone there could be rot on inner wings, Sills especially were the rubbers meet ene to end, fuel cap area, boot floor round the screen inner lips of all doors everywere really they are rot boxes and use a magnet on a cloth to check not loaded with filler.

TBH sounds expensive to me you could probably build one cheaper so it wants to be rot free with full mot and tax.

eg car £100-£150 ebay all the time, wheels £200 (they are only vauxhall) , coilovers £140, seats £150 and leaves enough for the mot etc etc

make sure the engines cold when you go to look at it

carbed motors have a tendancy to be utter arses in the cold mornings.

for a 1.3 it might be expensive!

but its got plenty of new parts which hopefully wont require changing for years to come, it seems to have really low milage (though make sure there is proof)

dont be scared to look absolutely everywhere on the car for faults.

i even jack the car up when possible to have a decent look at the underneath (even in the mud and rain) plus then you get to test out the jacking pots for rot and stability!

i did this before and come away with a mk2 golf gti that wernt a concours winner but mechanically sound with brand new coilovers, brandnew magnex, brandnew pipercross induction kit for £350, which despite my valver being my baby, the car turned out to be the most fun and best learning curve car ive ever owned

just have a look and a drive and go with your instincts!

lecture over!lol!

If you can find anything wrong then just remember gfs are really cheap for mk2 bits.
