^^ That link makes the MK4 seem really bad.
In fact it's a great car. Fantastic as a daily, and can look pretty good once modified nicely.

I loved mine to bits, even though it was a 2.0.

Agreed, I really dont think I will ever sell mine, despite me having an unhealthy addiction to owning something RWD. I did the best part of 120 miles tonight in mine didnt miss a beat and I absolutely loved it Cool

Golfgtifoum link does make them sound bad but some good points to note.
I'll definately second:
Windows drop into doors
Coilpacks (some 1.8T models notoriously bad, 2.0 8v also an issue)
Plastic vanes on water pump - check if it's already been changed for metal-vane one.
Rear wiper leaks.
Rear axle bushes - knocks mean expensive bill as pressing these bad boys in is a nightmare.

If you can fault code read any car you are thinking of buying or get a garage to do it for you.
Hope this helps mate and good luck.
