| it makes them really high if they just bolt on, reckon its going to be a case of brace them up and cut most of them frame away leaving just the legs | |

| Cant you just mount mk2 recaro frames to them? thought most recaros had the same bolt pattern on the base. i know they aint particularly cheap or easy to get but id rather do that if its possible. | |

Yeah all recaros mount in the same way all have that flat base with 4 mount points im sure of it. Your on my lines of thinking that it would be eaiser to get recaro subframes that will go straight in. Costs more but saves a LOT of hassle.

| I dont mind having a go but you'll need to have a car to fit it in. cant do it this week end but can next, I've even got spare base frames from a mk2 here we could butcher/use. We could just fab some tags up for the seat bolt holes then cut the frames to the right hieght weld them back and pop the tags on ? Is that what you did Tiz ? | |

| I had some old bucket seat mounts kicking about you know the flat bits of bar with all the holes in for different bucket seats and shiz, they fit the recaro spacing so i welded the legs to them had to do quite a bit of chopping about and shiz though cause i like to sit low in the car, being a big boy and all haha.
Your idea of making some tabs sounds good though dude, id use some 1x1 box section to tie the thing all together in a nice square and add the tabs to that or drill through the box for the mounting bolts if i did it again i always try to over engineer seat mounts because i always wonder what would happen in a bad crash with some flimsy mounts, especially in a mk1 and 2 where the seat belt clip is part of the subframe.

| cheers for the replies fellas but i've found this now, i've stripped the recaros down to just the frames and going to try this way, looks to make sense so should work. it leaves the seatbelt mounts and the adjustment levers in place so hopefully should be ok from a safety point of view, I'll let you know how it goes http://www.vwcaddy.com/showthread.php?t=37050 | |
