| right after my trip round europe this june pretty much all of my moneys going into my car. but im split between two derisions; first is get the paintwork mint on mine, drop it on some nice coilies (probs ap's) and stick some beyern mesh 18s on it. or go down the forced rat look, matte/satin black it and give it a hefty drop on some cheapys with some lenso samurais 17x8.5 and some 20/30mm spacers. Im taking a lot of inspiration from a mk4 i found on edition (see pic below) this is open to discution lads, help me out! | |

| 17's over 18's any day. 18's cost more. More expensive for the wheels, and more expensive tyres. They sit in the arch a little fuller, but then putting low tyres on them with coilies will give you a bad back around this area. Get the Mesh wheels, but source them in a 17" x 8" or 17" x 8.5" at least. Then whack some 205/45/17's over them and you'll have some sexy wheels that'll cost you around £100-£150 less. Guaranteed. Then sit it right, with the wheels about flush and you'll have a far comfier ride, and quicker acceleration (bigger wheels = slower acceleration). Here's a couple of MK4's from Edition38 on 17's just to show you what I mean.... And Scott W's Bora on 17's. Trust me, he's the effing king of stance.... If you want it riding nice and low, stick on some 17's. If you want tractor boy gangsta, then 18's all the way. Lol, thats just my opinion... now just gotta sit and wait til the 18" lovers start the flaming.... | |

| see now thats what i was looking for stampers, 17's it is. i just didnt know if thy would look to small but obviously not. i like the beyerns but 17s only come in 8's which has the biggest lips of 1.2" which is rather gay. plus you looking at another £300 for spacers. just dont know if i can justify about 1200 for a set of wheels. | |

Lol, thats just my opinion... now just gotta sit and wait til the 18" lovers start the flaming.... who are you trying to kid Stamps? everyone knows that the bigger the wheels, like so many other things (the bigger the shoe, the engine etc...) the bigger the man... I rock 17's because i have nothing to prove other than i spend too much money elsewhere and therefore can't show off how bigger a man i am through my car... so to cut it short, you're all wrong, 30's for the win... Im ordering these when my next bonus comes in... (i am fully aware of how pointless this post is, especially as i think 17's look better on mk4's, but im freakin' bored at work!) x

| I think both 17's and 18's can be pulled off well on a Mk4 aslong as you get the spacing right to get them stanced well. Avoid 19's there nothing but a pain and rub all the time | |

| my opinion is that youve gotta be silly low or on air to rock 17s on a mk4. and if 18s look better and allow more drivability, then why go with 17s jsut to say 150quid? its abit of a backward way of doin thingsi think. there alot or 17in wheels that are more money than some 18s, same goes for tyres. Stampers- yes scott bora sits well, but is yours gonna be that low? | |

| Regarding your spacers try this guy ...he might be able to help....its not a recommendation just a contact i came across whilst i was looking for adapters for mine...reckons he can get adaptors made for £175 + £15 postage any adaptation and up to 35mm can do two at one width and the other two at another...too Gary on 0777 303 5578 or e-mail Gar.Thoms@hotmail.co.uk | |

Stampers- yes scott bora sits well, but is yours gonna be that low? Depends what style you go for (poke, tuck, stretch, standard, camber) to justify being stupidly low. Nope, mine wont be that low, as my wheels aren't 9" or 10" wide with stretched tyres over them. But then guy with the green golf i posted earlier has dropped his 10mm lower than mine, and imo, it sits perfectly on those wheels without it bein silly low. After talking with some of the guys from ED38, they recommended 205/45/17 tyres for what I wanted. Got them fitted yesterday and they were spot on. Yes, I want it to be really low, and yes, I want to fill the arches nicely. But sometimes you have to compensate. £150 may not sound like alot to you, but I could do a hell of a lot more with it than have an extra inch on my wheels. Of course there are 17" wheels that are more expensive than 18", but thats when you're going for specific types. Example - Gotti Splits in 17" are more expensive than 18" RS6 wheels. Two different types there. When you look at brand new BBS LM Reps, the 17" are noticeably cheaper than the 18's. The same type of each wheel, and the larger size will always be more expensive brand new. Its logical. I guarantee you, brand new budget 205/45/17 will be cheaper in comparison to 215/35/18. On the correct wheel, they'll give you roughly the same overall diameter. So yeah, I still stand by my opinion, and im not saying 18" wheels on a MK4 is wrong. All i'm pointing out is I prefer the way 17" wheels look on that model of car. Comfortability, drivability, cheaper (in most cases), and look just as good. Ticks all the boxes for me.

Stampers- yes scott bora sits well, but is yours gonna be that low? to be fair dude i plan to go quite low so it should sit alright. worst comes to worst if i dont like it i can always sell them and buy some 18's - Doobie wrote:

I can't work out my wheels work so well even though there 19's i have seen 19's with spokes to the edge and no dish and they do look bigger and out of proportion. Think it's all down to the style of wheel aswell. Dished wheels always look a little smaller than spokes to the edge. Saw you aswell at the last minute Karl
